You'd be silly to sell him now having held out for so long. If he gets his head right, he's still your best keeper.
I disagree, the only reason we were holding out in the first place was because of their undervalued offers for De Gea, if we have a decent bid for him then great. We are certainly not stupid enough to let him go for free

If we sell de gea, Keylor Navas will be part of the package, has to be

I would imagine so. This late in the window, I think it's more likely we'd ask for Navas than shell out £20m+ for Cillessen, and all the tricky negotiating that would go with that.

This

it would be really silly to leave the de gea deal this late without another keeper coming the other way

anyway

telegraph are saying united are interested in draxler

who is Miguel Delaney ? He's also saying de gea to madrid is done for 29m.

This window is starting to feel like a massive letdown. If we sell DDG and Hernandez and buy only Cillesen, I don't even think we're strengthened at all.

Complete and utter nonsense. How anyone can feel let down after the additions we've made is beyond me. And your assessment of Darmian's attacking contribution is just plain wrong.

Yep £29m is good money and I agree we shouldn't be buying another keeper at this stage. Romero has done little wrong and Sam should get his chance as backup.

If we get a striker in it will be a brilliant window for us. As it stands its been a good one.

And I'd buy a keeper as well now in addition to the attacker we need unless Johnstone is looking brilliant in training. Maybe not a big buy but someone fairly dependable.

That's what I'm asking myself too. I don't think Ajax would let Cilesen go to us either.
I don't think we would let ddg go unless we had a replacement sorted .
Unless we're going with Romero which I very much doubt .
We got the Dutch player of the year for 14m so I can't see cillesen costing much more .
(Not that I want him mind)

How are we strengthened?

We have improved our midfield a lot but have lost all our depth in attack and are now extremely reliant on Rooney. On the wings it's Nani and Di Maria out and Depay in. He looks amazing but ADM, despite one very bad season, is still considered a world-class player. We have a new right-back who is defensively much better but contributes less in attack. Add a considerable downgrade on the goalkeeper position and I'd say that's pretty much like for like.

You do have a point

If we sell now after a whole summer of standing firm the we will once again be nothing more than Madrid's bitches. Something big better happen before Tuesday otherwise there will be a lot of unhappy Manchester United fans.

Don't know what to make of all this. 29m is good business but if we're getting Cilessen that doesn't fill me with confidence, don't know much about him tbh, but people are very critical.

So, let me get this straight, selling a goal keeper to another club reduces one of the world's biggest football clubs to "real madrid"s bitches".

Also why do you think we've been standing firm? We were never averse to selling a player with one year to go on his contract who wants to leave. It would have always been about madrid paying up a proper fee. Why would we reject once they do? This is business not a sumo wrestling match.

Delaney is one of the better journos around.

You should be happy with 40m€,they are paying too much but obviously was time to free De Gea :).I wonder what will happen with Navas...

Surely he has to go as you signed Casilla too. If we were to sell DDG, then ideal scenario would be getting Lloris for £25m and Spurs can have Navas off their parent club.

If we actually held out for and got 29m, then it is a pretty good deal.. he was gone anyway.. getting decent money for him is fine... but more importantly not getting bullied into selling low is pleasing...

Until it's confirmed I'm not believing it tbh, LvG was adamant that DDG is staying, although I agree that the fee is good but it's just 3-4 weeks too late.

Doubt we'd be interested in Navas, poor guy.

Because it once again shows that they will take a player from us when they choose whereas by all accounts we've failed to sign Ramos and possibly Bale from them this summer.

Selling him this late in the window with no real replacement for him and still very obvious weaknesses in our squad which won't be addressed will leave a lot of people unhappy.

You think it's possible for someone to create less in attack than Valencia?

It was cough the cash or give Ramos as a part of the deal. So it seems they're now willing to pay.

Its DDG who has chosen to leave. That's the difference here - we haven't signed Ramos or Bale because they don't want to leave and that is not a failure on our part by any means.

Theres plenty of folk here happy with this window by the way. Plenty.

Couple of issues with the above. ADM was world class for Madrid but stunk the place out for us. No loss whatsoever. We didn't have a world class Rat features so we haven't lost a world class option. And Valencia contributes more in attack? Not sure about that. His main job anyway is to defend and our defensive structure is a lot better with Darmian. huge upgrade on One Foot.

I don't think we're going to buy a keeper.
Yeah. Seems once you get LvG's confidence you have it. Blind at central defense, not getting a winger and now possibly selling Chicha and DdG. I personally don't agree with it. I'd rather we strengthen all 4 these positions (if the two mentioned leave). Too late in the window to get 4 deals done, surely.. Positive is Januzaj won't be sent out on loan and can continue his development at Utd, getting more games than last season. Wilson should get more chances to. Fellaini will be used as a striker on multiple occassions. Oh well, it's hypothetical until the window closes but it's looking plausible.

doesn't mean that he shouldn't be replaced.

Highest assists, hella chances created. He needed replacing.

Considering all that's happened, at this moment in time £29m would be a ridiculously good deal for us.
Define "good deal"? It's very late in the window and regardless of what fee we end up getting, it will be hard to bring in replacement without paying a significant chunk of what we get for De Gea.

Bitches if we sold them for their peanut offers of earlier in the window but not if we get £29m. By standing firm they have overpaid for a player with a year left in his contract who clearly wants to go and doubled their original offer.

Definitely accept £29m for De Gea. I'm sure we already have a replacement lined up and ready to go.

Remember last season when we sold Welbeck and signed Falcao in a matter of hours.

leaving it very late to get a replacement.

We should just keep him for the next seaosn imo.

I think Romero is our short term replacement and he's been fine so far. You've got to be realistic about it and we're getting great money for a keeper who hasn't made a match day squad yet this season.

Romero won't be as good as Dave or good enough long term but he's not going to cost us that many points. In fact £29m is such a good fee I don't believe it's true

But he will be. We'll have a 25 man squad and someone else will get the chances he had. I don't believe his contribution was that great that we needed to go out and spend another £60m on somebody. He didn't add that much. Half his assists were corners, set pieces and the odd hit and hope ball into the box. Not like we don't have another corner taker or somebody capable of producing similar flukey moments. I don't look at last year and see him as vital to how we played or as some sort of unbelievable gamechanger. An average player can provide what he provided last year.
