Just seen an interesting article stating how England could lose its fourth place in the Champions League, with Italy closing in. I'd hope we strengthen before the window shuts and cement third place or higher, otherwise we could find ourselves (assuming we finish fourth) in the EL sooner rather than later.

I expect something would happen that would magic a 4th entry for 4 leagues if the Premier league missed out... we're too influential (coughs bungs) for us to get squeezed down.

The Italian clubs have tough group draws and the PL clubs look set to do better this year. Don't see this happening.

Have you seen him play against us? Lacking energy? he pretty much played as a box to box midfielder, 10 and striker. Rushing up the field for the second.

Box to box midfielder. Good one.

All of Ibra good work comes with his back to goal, where he drops off, holds up play and and feeds ongoing runners. He play as a false 9 at PSG because he always has runners going in behind him. Matuidi, Cavani, Lucas, etc. If we were to stay with the same set up, as many have been saying, we'd need a striker to stretch play for us, otherwise we might as well leave Rooney to play the 'box to box, 10 and striker' role.

That would be embarrassing considering how much more money premier league clubs have to spend.

Annoyingly, that is what was meant to happen this summer.

Generally, Im delighted with LVG's transfer strategy and I think he has done an amazing job at completely revamping the squad in 12 months. He had mad many tough decisions without getting lost in sentiment or nepotism and the vast majority of his signings have been reasonable priced at fit the requirements of the club.

But, its a real shame that both Falcao or Di Maria were massive failures and so the team still lacks a genuine maverick game changer. In many ways, the squad feels like SAF's pre Cantona squad - it needs one more attacking magician who has supreme ability, confidence and aura. And I hoped that LVG would get him this year so we could genuinely feast on the top table again.

It seems the club have tried their utmost to achieve this with rumours of Ronaldo, Bale, Muller, even Neymar. But so far we have not been able to pull it off. In my opinion, until we get such a player, we will remain just short of genuine contenders for the Premier and European championships.
In many ways, indeed. Enjoyed and agree with your post, mate. Only thing is, how long must we wait before lightning strikes again, along the banks of the Irwell?

Based on rudimentary calculations, our wage bill is around 600K per week less than it was at this point last season. And that is taking into account the wages of new players. With Valdes leaving we also have a negative net spend for the summer. All in all I believe we have a much more balanced squad too. Excellent work so far. If we can bring in one more versatile and pacey forward, I think we should be absolutely ecstatic with what the club has accomplished.

Something is brewing I'm sure. We had a surprise last deadline day and I can see another this time.

He is a PSG product that signed for Juventus on a free last year.
Oh I saw that on wiki but I still have no freaking idea. I haven't played FM for a couple of years either.

Everton will regret not selling Stones for the miney that it wa offered... Still it is nice to see a club saying no to big guys.

Doubt it. He's only 21 (and English) after all so unless he turns to shit, they should be able to get huge money for him if they decided to sell him in the next few years.

I think we'll be his next club at some point in the future.

It was stupid amount of money for promising defender and i don't think he will be that good as some expect.

Sterling just went to city for 50m after a fairly shite season. The market is crazy for young english potential, worth the risk to hold out imo.
