Advocaat has brought the 29yr old Ola Toivonen to Sunderland from Stade Rennes. A Swedish tall attacking midfielder/shadow striker, has good link up play and was a real arse on the field for PSV for opponents. Pretty good signing although I haven't seen him alot when he went to France. He's a player not many people in the PL will like for his antics but could give Sunderland some bite. I think Advocaat has made some decent to good signings but so far he's really struggling.

I'll have a £10 bet with anyone that we don't make a major signing (£25m+) before the window shuts. Excluding a goalkeeper replacment.
I'll take that bet.

I'd rather stick with Romero, I hope this isn't true.
Cillessen is really good with the ball at his feet and is generally a pretty good goalkeeper. Obviously not anywhere close to de gea, but I don't think people will notice him too much because of how solid we are defensively. 5 games in and Romero has hardly been tested, but hasn't exactly filled me with confidence with the ball at his feet. That's where Cillessen would be an improvement (but still a downgrade on de gea... shame he's most likely leaving).

I think we might still buy three players: striker, right-winger and goal-keeper.

A tad unfair. He has been tested several times for example, when the Brugge player was clear onto goal and Romero forced him wide and smothered a very good goal-scoring chance.

Ibra would be fine as a stop gap #9, although Lewandowski would be the dream buy.

Cillessen shouldn't even be considered, we need to look to Germany for our next keeper.

He did well there, but that's why I said hardly... He's had like a handful of saves in 5 games, and apart from the chance which he forced the player wider before he smothered it, none were really a test for him. Not a criticism, just that he hasn't really had much to do.

He hasn't conceded a single goal in four games. What more do you want?

I think it would be unfair to blame Romero for Carrick's own goal.

I'm not blaming him at all? I'm saying he hasn't been tested in 5 games so we don't know how good he is, but when it comes to having the ball at his feet, Cillessen is better.

He hasn't been tested imo, we haven't exactly gone up against the best the prem or europe can offer.

Of course he's been fine so far. I've yet to see how he handles some of the shots de gea was dealing with last year.
