Hope so.

Isn't Aymeric Laporte's release clause around this amount? I'd be sniffing around there if Stones proves impossible.
You can get Stones, but stay away from Laporte. He is ours.

So unfair when we have had both clubs permission considering Mori was at our game on Sunday. ;) Knew that someone would say something without knowing the full story behind those players.

So you admit that you bullied their clubs into accepting the transfers, unsettling players isn't enough anymore, you unsettle football clubs? :nono:

Said that with tongue in cheek - as I heard Martinez saying that the transfer window should be shut once the season starts. I admire Everton and Martinez for staying strong with Stones - just find Martinez a bit of a hypocrite here.

That's not fair that they are unsettling players from other teams once the season starts.

Well, if this is their first bid, I think its okay. If the club says that his staying and that they wont accept another bid, its could unsettle the player if they make a second bid.

It genuinely is not hypocritical. He says in the interview that he has good relationships with both selling clubs and permission to speak to and about the players. Hardly the same situation with Stones and Chelsea, where Chelsea went public when Everton did not want to, the player has had his head turned and handed in a transfer request, and has now had to move out of his house due to thugs threatening him at home!

Rather be a hypocrite than an idiot. I think he's right but you're not going to waste the extra 3/4 weeks you're given because of what you think is right. In these cases too the club have accepted a deal and it's more negotiations over the fee and such, whereas the Stones situation has been a flat out no.

There's not even any strong rumors around for us now.

Saido mane was the strangest one. Came out of nowhere and very strongly and then nothing has been added.

Though i think we will still have atleast 1 more surprise signing somewhere before the window ends.

It's probably the case but Keegan loves posting stuff like this, the scruffy blue cnut.

Disappointing if true. We needed a winger/forward at least if we were going to do anything this season.

They're just trying to raise the price by another £20m by next summer if he has another good season.

Nothing noble about their stance.

It seems no incoming over the next few days.

let's hope we keep DDG as I'm not 100% convinced with Romero.

I reckon as we get closer to the deadline loads of agents will be offering their clients to us like Falcao last year. Something might just drop into our lap.

tbh im happy with what we've brought in, another winger/CF would have been very beneficial imo, but that is why i don't think we should of sold di maria without trying to get a player in return.

We'll get an attacker.
and I honestly believe that we want one.

It's just a choice of either starving or going to the bottom of the barrel for scraps. LVG strikes me as a manager that would prefer to work with what he has even if it isn't enough as there are not alot of options left.

If lvg really did pull the plug on pedro, or wasn't that interested then he's once again left me clueless.

Is there another Memphis out there?

As in, just come off a super season in a 'weaker' league, and wouldn't cost a fortune.

Any top talents kicking about in the Portuguese league?

He does look some player, doesn't he? Pretty surprising that with all this money being thrown around no one has triggered that clause.

Fantastic if true, if we zero our accounts for this transfer window it would be amazing, add to that all the saving we make off the wage bill, woody your a genius.

Trying hard to look on the bright side, optimistic but its getting dark...

I hear that Nicolas Gaitan chap who really, really wants to play for us is available.

Beradi, Martial, Meyer, Goretzka, Brandt, Tielemans? (Not just attackers there, just a list of young players that we could probably splash the cash on).

Why would it be genius? It simply makes more money for the Glazers.

Frankly, I don't care one bit about balancing pour books or buying players for value. I don't see why some fans get so much satisfaction from this?

We have more than enough cash to finance our debt, provide our shareholders and owners a very healthy profit and invest massively into our team.

I simply want to watch brilliant football players play amazing football that win trophies for Manchester United. If that means blowing transfer fee records, so be it, it's our lawful income to spend.

That article, says nothing we don't already know. We are trying to land someone, but could end up with nothing. Evans, Valdes to be sold, blimey that's new to all of us..

Christ, journalism at it's very best.

I don't think they are against investing heavily in our team.

It just means with this season's £6.5m net spend and also savings from the wage bill we can finance not just a huge transfer but transfers, if we don't sign this season many players due to lack of availability I think the club will compensate next season, it's sensible being opportunistic and so paying reasonably for what is available.

We are in my opinion fortunate Louis van Gaal was available, a manager who has experience in taking a squad that's no longer good enough and completely changing it, he has had to make big decisions with this squad and I think he has got a lot of them right, it's a young team with a lot of potential that now only needs the addition of world class quality. Pep, Mourinho, Klopp or Ancelotti are probably better positioned to take this squad to glory but I don't know how well they would have done in building what we have now.

I think the board realise the mess we were in with our squad due to years of underinvestment, Ferguson masked it because he was so highly experienced in this league he knew how to beat the smaller teams he came up against, in his final season he conceded in the premier league 43 goals which isn't good, he hadn't won the Fa Cup since 2004 so the signs were there, he had a perfect record in his final season against the bottom 9 teams of the premier league, that is he beat the weakest teams in the league both home and away, he knew how to beat those teams and so that was already 54 points from those matches alone, he only got 35 points from the top 10 teams so that's out of a possible of 60, if Ferguson struggled against the top 10 what chance did Moyes have?

Look what happened to Liverpool, they had a good squad but lost the champions league places, they have spent a lot since but still find it hard to break into the top four.

Surely that's a reason why we can't afford to let the quality of the squad stagnate? We miss out this year and there's no guarantee, with almost certainly a new manager, spending loads next summer will get us back there.

IMO, he's the best young CB in the world. On the other side, while I rate Stones highly, I think that Varane, Gimenez and Marquinhos are better.

I think that Laporte will be Barca's player soon enough. Hopefully we'll try to get him though.

About this summer, it is impossible. Too late to activate his release clause.

He is not worth that money right now plus Athletic can be bit of a nuisance even with the release clauses if they don't wanna sell.

The contract was signed this summer i think which raised the release clause further.

Btw, not sure he's better than Stones either frankly.

We had won the league (or were 12-15 points clear) when we had faced City. It's fair to say we stepped off the gas, which saw us lose to City and Chelsea, and draw to Arsenal. That's 8 points dropped. A further 2 were dropped in that freak game against WBA.

It's more money for everyone, the club, the shareholders and the Glazers. Most of the money stay in the club, the Glazers take the same percentage no matter what.

We have made quite a few signings this season, it is a young squad so we could potentially miss out if they are inconsistent but it's also a squad that has a great deal of potential and will be much better next season, it needs only a world class player or two and it's going to be a quality squad and team I think.

Ideally we would sign that attacker, but who do we sign? We need the highest level otherwise we are just getting more players at a level we already have, it's not like we aren't trying to get the quality player, it even seems as though we might keep De Gea which is sensible, you can look at that as a £25m loan if that's what Madrid were willing to pay and we rejected.

We don't need to spend loads next summer, let's say we don't finish top four and Ancelotti comes in, he will need only a GK and Attacker, we will spend loads actually but only on two or three players, it won't need many new players so i'm not worried right now as our squad is good however we need to make sure we add to it with the highest level of player if possible each season, it's when you need to drastically change the squad things get tricky like what Louis van Gaal needed to do or if you lose your best players like what keeps happening to Liverpool.
