Feels a bit late given we're not even really linked to anyone realistic anymore!

Yeah man, I'm hoping for the same, but it's not looking likely at this moment in time.
Now that the token shackles of FFP have been removed, City can spend whatever they like.
yep, that might be a factor. How is that 40m structured though? Might be so much in clauses, bonuses, options and such that Everton only make out with a fraction short term.
It's looking a bit bleak on that front I agree, it's a shame we are leaving the attack so short.

Jesus, that's a good deal for Barnsley.Indeed, i'm sure i read somewhere that Barnsley have a 15% sell on fee so if it was 40m they'd get 6m. Probably why we'd want a lot up front if that's correct.
We've barely spent anything.City and Chelsea aren't holding back this window, jeez. Insane fee.
Throw us a bone Ed.
We've strengthened a number of positions; all our signings so far this window are looking good. There is a need for a quality striker, but unlike some years where we've been unwilling to spend, this year we are willing to spend but nobody is willing to sell. And if you take wages into account, we have probably saved money this year, yet there are a few clear holes in the team, and we haven't sorted them yet

Nah I think we're done, we need a top wide man and a quality striker. There's no way no rumours would be circling if we were in for the above mentioned.Do you guys think there will be one huge United rumor between now and the deadline day?
Seems very quiet from us at the moment. Not really linked seriously with anyone.
Insane fee for them to turn down after a transfer request.

Hope so.Chelsea will sign stones this window no doubt. Deadline day deal

36 mil pounds..Hope so.
Isn't Aymeric Laporte's release clause around this amount? I'd be sniffing around there if Stones proves impossible.
Can't see it. Probably something about trying for Mane again but they won't sell. There aren't really any viable options for right wing, which makes the supposed Van Gaal stance on Pedro baffling.Do you guys think there will be one huge United rumor between now and the deadline day?

We should be all over that. He's better than Stones.36 mil pounds..
It just looks like a personal mission by Martinez to prove a point. They feel that big, bad Chelsea have been classless somehow by having the gaul to bid for their player. How the hell do you turn that sort of money down for a defender who very well might end up not living up to his early potential?
It's either impressive or madness.

It's baffling that we are leaving ourselves so short, say we have Mata, Rooney, and Shaw out injured for a while, who would we replace them with without our level taking a big drop?
The fact LvG brought Ashley Young on to play on the right wing last night was a sure sign we are short there, Mata himself isn't even a right winger, all very strange indeed given the fact some players are there and we have money to spend.

Its what I think happened too..the way Chelsea has handled this has annoyed Everton ..its like when we made a joint bid for Fellaini and Baines for 28 mil..they even put a statement calling our bid derisoryThe way Jose has unsettled Stones, Everton have every right to feel aggrieved and say no.

You havent been on the other side, and it shows..when you have a player you value highly an another club shows up and plays that process through the media to basically tell you to give him up, then the club obviously wont react well to it..If Chelsea had done their bidding in private and respected Everton's stance , then some deal could have been reached , maybe not necesarily this season but next...However, what has annoyed them is basically stance of "How dare you not sell us your best player with a week left on the window, with the only possible replacement alternative is Jonny Fecking Evans"Keep seeing people say this. The way we unsettled him? The way we've handled it?
This is how transfers work. Want player, bid for player. A club says no to the initial bid? Increase the offer. It's what City just did with Sterling. In the end Liverpool realized they were getting an insane amount of money and allowing the player to progress with his career.
Everton seem to be making this personal when it's really just business.

You can't really say the club has acted the same way as the supporters have. The club hasn't come out and said "how dare they not sell." All we've done lately is put increased offers in. Every time José is asked about Stones in a press conference he refuses to comment. You havent been on the other side, and it shows..when you have a player you value highly an another club shows up and plays that process through the media to basically tell you to give him up, then the club obviously wont react well to it..If Chelsea had done their bidding in private and respected Everton's stance , then some deal could have been reached , maybe not necesarily this season but next...However, what has annoyed them is basically stance of "How dare you not sell us your best player with a week left on the window, with the only possible replacement alternative is Jonny Fecking Evans"
I know that, but the Everton fans dont seem one bit excited at the prospect of losing Stones for him..I'm no Evans fan, but it perhaps shouldn't be forgotten that Evans has played a lot of games for Premier league champions, and has a sh!tload more experience than Stones.
And If Stones is worth £35-40m, it seems mad to me that Evans seems to be being bandied around as if he's some league 2 chump
But apparently Everton told you privately that he wasnt for sale, yet you continued with this ...Apparently(From what I heard on the Everton forums), another team inquired too..they were told the same thing, and they respectfully backed off..you conveniently made bids making sure to inform the media of those bids even before they were made( Evident with all the journos coming out with the exact same thing about whatever bid Chelsea were to make that they were briefings)You can't really say the club has acted the same way as the supporters have. This whole "they've done it through the media" shit is so overblown. Every time City bid for Sterling it was public. Almost any time a big club bids for a player it's public knowledge.

They will indeed. It is projected that the bottom club next season will earn as much in TV revenue as Chelsea made last season from winning it. About £100m. It's mad.The fees are going to be a whole other level of mental next summer, aren't they? No wonder people feel disillusioned with the game, the money getting thrown around is crazy.
