No, you are not the only one. We need a better CB, otherwise it isn't good enough. I remember when the season ended, a lot of people said a CB is top priority, now they all are kind of satisfied with having improved our squad in other areas and are backtracking.

Last year it was the same. We had enough CBs, they will step up eventually, we wont have injury crises etc... but it didnt work out, we had injuries and most of them played shockingly at times + we always have injuries at the back.

We need Otamendi if Ramos isnt gettable, period.

Folk just seem to be relieved we got CM sorted & sorted with 2 brilliant Caf muppet-dream signings to boot.

Plus we got a top-class RB, who was a Caf favourite amongst many on here - me included. I wanted Alves aswell though, so we'd have 2 quality RB's & not have to see Tony play there - but up the field attacking & killing the opposition with his 300mph drilled balls & crosses

The above wasnt enough - there were many gaps in the 1st team & the squad, that needed addressing this summer.

I said before the end of last season what i thought we needed this summer to make us proper contenders again & not just flirt with the idea & tail off:

2 CB's: So Smalling can compete with them for the 2 starting slots. Jones, Rojo & McNair would be back up to those 3.

1 or 2 RB's: 2 quality players for every position mantra - same as we have on the left. Rafa would be sold & no more Tony playin RB again.

2 CM's: No need to explain that one.

2 Strikers: RvP will most likely to be gone, as will Falcao & most likely Chicarito too, which leaves us with only Rooney & Wilson.

I didnt truly envisage Di Maria leaving either, but that looks to be a dead-cert now.

So, we now have 2 new brilliant CM's & a brilliant RB & that's absolutely fantastic, but Tony's still gonna be part of the RB/WB scenario, but that's cool - we got Darmian, so f*ck it anyway.

We lost 2 Strikers & i can still see Chicarito leaving if a good offer comes in, but we have Memphis who could prove to be a hit in the goal-scoring dept. & we've been linked to Pedro also, so there's no need for 2 Strikers - but i'd duly love one in, in case Rooney got injured for a stretch.

No CB's in & that prick Ramos was dicking us around, so he's not coming. We're not after Otamendi according to many reports this evening either  & the way LvG's been playin Blind at CB during pre-season - it looks like we might not bring anyone in at all ffs. :wenger:

So, on reflection it's been a great window addressing some key areas; but so far we've not addressed the other key areas to bring us on even further, a place we were some years ago & where we wanna be asap.

If we get the CB & the attack areas sorted aswell - then we really are back in business, because even though our CM is top-class - they are not the only answer to our success - they're part of the mechanism & we should try to have as close to equal quality players in their respective positions all over the pitch.

My biggest dread is hearing pundits saying this next season: "United have a brilliant world-class midfield - but it's a shame for them that the defence has let them down yet again & i cant see where their goals are gonna come from either - they're totally impotent in that area.."

It's unfair to judge our current centre backs under previous circumstances. However, with the CM additions we've made, we'll be able to get a proper understanding of how good our CB's are. They're all either young or very young, which means they have plenty of time to develop into better players.

Having solid CB's has been the bedrock to our success during Fergie's reign - building from the back cliche.

Taking a punt & wait & see, with our CB's the way it is - is what folk have been saying for the past number of years mate & we're still waiting.

Times up in my opinion. A new top-class CB is a must & i find it unbelievable that some folk think different.

There just aren't that many top-class CB's basically.
I dont think anyone would be arguing that ramos or hummels wouldn't be a great buy.

I'm happy with what we have tbh. Otamendi would be an improvement imo but not a drastic one, I'll get over missing out on him.
Theres a bunch of kids with potential too but i just dont see any compelling reason to go for them right now.
They'll all feck up and make stupid game changing mistakes for a few years before they get a bit of experience
and smalling and jones are both further down the line and have plenty of potential imo

I presume we'll go for stones if chelsea force our hand but hes better off hanging out at everton for a year or two playing most weeks imo

Round and round it goes

Normally when something is supposed to be moving real fast and then not move at all, only to again move real fast and then not move at all, I tend to call bullshit. But when you look at some of our recent signing, it seems as though that's the way it goes.

Is Reus out of the question? I need one more fix before the window closes.

I can't see Dortmund selling him at this stage of the summer.

Why doesn't he want to leave? Klopp is gone, they won't beat bayern to the league and they just scraped Europa League qualification.

Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin holding with Memphis, Reus and Pedro behind Rooney.

I don't know Reus's reasoning. Why doesn't Hummels want to leave? Maybe they are just really comfortable. Maybe they're looking at how some of the players who left Dortmund have done - Kagawa, Sahin and Gotze have all had their problems.

Just set a cap/limit re how many letters you can use in this thread (like twitter), to get rid of megaposts. Possible? I like reading the opinions about the tweets but i find myself skipping past some posts because of length. Sure i'm missing out on some interesting thoughts.

Leaving out the most important sentence of that press conference by Frank de Boer:
'He really has a problem with his calf, I would almost say luckily so. It has nothing to do with a transfer.'

fecking English press

so after Chester another youth product back in premier league, good to hear that. Always liked Brady.

He looked good when I saw Hull last year and Norwich don't really have a wide player opposite Redmond. Seems like a good move.

They're maybe complete homebirds man & have a comfortable life in Germany with their family around them, playing football for a living & gettin paid very well for it - not to mention they both are shoe-in German internationals too?!

It's all good from the outside looking in, from my point of view. I'd love that..
