When Milner is offered £150k a week, no wonder Sterling is pissed at £100k. Milner. £150k. Bloody hell.

James Milner who's in the peak of his career with over 350 PL appearances to his name and 53 international caps, played in a side that's won two titles and both domestic cups, won PFA Young Player of the Year with Villa and proven himself capable in the Champions League (including a MOTM performance at the Allianz). Why do you think Sterling on the back off a very promising debut season in England followed by a decent if uninspiring one deserves parity with a proven player like Milner?

I thought it was pretty certain that the Sterling angling for more money was coming from the owners(One of the reasons why Sterling's camp is so pissed).

Because he's a much, much better player.

He's not, he's a 20 year old with a bright future ahead of him. Anyone investing in him right now is making a huge gamble. Milner is a proven, established player in a side that's won two titles and both domestic cups. Sterling needs to prove himself in a top side for a couple more seasons at least before he can start pointing to what James Milner is earning and becoming bitter.

Neither player should be looking at the wages that have been bandied about. Sterling, at least, is a prize commodity with room for massive growth going forward.

Barcelona president Bartomeu insists Alves received a contract renewal offer 'of respect'.

“We have presented Alves with a renewal offer of respect toward him. He already knows it, but the decision is his. If you ask for my opinion, I would say ‘sign it’ because it is a good contract with Barcelona, which I consider to be the best club,” he said.

He really is though, he might be younger but he's still the better player. Even if you genuinely believe he isn't, Milner isn't £50k worth better than him. Sterling essentially carried them for large parts last season, Milner may have won a lot at City but he's done nothing for Liverpool, Sterling has.
Well, Scholes was much better player than Rooney. Rooney had more wages.
Then you could've forgiven Scholes for being pissed off.

Yeah I entirely agree with your first point, but the fact is Sterling's value rests so much on his potential. Milner is a proven asset and has shown he's capable of delivering in high pressure matches and do a job against any opposition season after season. He's in his peak years. His wages deserve to be higher than Sterling's who could just as easily flop and become a mediocre talent as he could become a genuinely exciting world class winger.

Can someone remind me who this Rafael Hernandez chap is?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Milner is worthy of £50k a week more than Sterling. Neither of them should be earning £150k a week. But my point is I think if Sterling has any common sense and respect for his fellow professionals he should be able to comprehend the fact that Milner is in a position where he can command higher wages, taking everything into account.

Oh I agree that's how the footballing world works, but as ridiculous as wages have become in football, he should be paid what he is worth to the club, regardless of his age and previous achievements. Sterling is the most valuable commodity Liverpool own and should really be treated in that regard.

So a tenner a week and a few big rat dinners should cover it then? Nice one.

Mostly tweets stories from papers and stuff. Doesn't really tweet things like these, so it's rather odd.

When it's about Barcelona he actually does, and a lot of local Barcelona fans seem to be rather fond of him and his (alleged) contacts.
Don't know much about him to be honest, follow him myself, but that's mostly because he usually speaks a lot of sense about stuff that he isn't too emotionally invested in. I'd probably take it with a pinch of salt, but he isn't your typical ITK-wannabe who makes shit up simply to be a WUM

Falcao signing for Chelsea worries me. I can just see him finding his feet in his second season in the PL and having recovered from his injury to full fitness...

We just couldn't sign him though. Absolutely no way could we justify paying money for him based on what he showed last year.

It's hard to disagree that Sterling is Liverpool's most valuable asset but I don't think that automatically means he deserves to be paid more than their other players. Valdes and Caballero are going to be earning decent amounts, more than the most talented youngsters at City and United, but the clubs would place more value in the likes of Wilson and Denayer than they would in the two keepers. It's not the best comparison as obviously Sterling is more established than the average youth talent, but it does reflect the principle that value to a club does not always have to correlate to higher wages.

I agree. I'm not saying we sign him. I'm just panicking that he'll do well for our rivals, aka worst case scenario :nervous:

Sterling is better than Milner for gods sake.

Are you saying that Milner, individually, is better than Sterling?

So if we have opened talks with him, that is because we have permission off Real yeah?

Benzema would be a dream. Never going to happen though.

Can't get tweet to post right now but itv's Matt Smith has just posted he's been 'reliably informed' van Persie will leave this summer.

Nowadays contacting the selling club is the last thing the buying one does in the process of aquiring a player.

Not saying the story is true, but it'd be a nice change if some club starts tapping up one of Madrid's players.

Sterling has more talent than Milner and the capability to outperform him. Doesn't make him deserving of higher wages at this point in his career.
