Beginning to think Van Gaal's rant was a device to light a fire under Valdes. If he was really going to be sold, he would probably not be asked to continue training since he didn't previously have much of a role in any case.

Well Andy Mitten did say that VV and Lvg have had lots of disagreement in the past and VV probably believes that this can be sorted out too.

Bizarre that he signed for Chelsea in the first place.
Like most of our fans, he probably thought that he would be starting in place of Ivanovic.

Both Azpi and Ivanovic were just too good to drop. Really liked Luis and am sad it didn't work out. Great player.

I always thought Luis was a LB?

AdM to be presented next week?

Fee around €63m - still not signed - player still in Argentina, could pass medical next week and be presented thereafter

£45m when we paid nearly £60 for him?

He's only one year into a 4 year deal … whether he wants to go or not is irrelevant, we don't have to let him go for peanuts! We have the strongest hand here and there is no way IMHO that Woody would ever undo all the good work he's done over the last 18 months by letting a cash rich club like PSG get away with stealing a player for a song. Don't see it happening for less than £55m

He is. When we signed Luis many of us were excited because we figured Azpilicueta would move back to his natural position on the right with Luis as our new first choice LB.

In no way am I downplaying Azpilicueta (one of the best left backs in the league) but I would have thought Ivanovic would be one of the first names on your team sheet? For me he's by far the best right back in the league..

he's a bit of a liability in defense now I believe

Ivanovic is definitely one of the first names on the team sheet now. Just named our new vice captain in fact.

Before last season and even at points during the season many were frustrated with aspects of his game and wanted to see more of Luis. Like JT and Drogba, Ivanovic is one of Mourinho's "generals" and favorites. He'll probably never get dropped if he's fit.

I think Ivanovic's goal scoring ability clouds over some of his downfalls. I would still rate Zabaleta as a better RB than him.

Benzema has posted an instagram of himself on a private jet with the caption "leave the past in the past" flying seperate from his club mates.

I desperately hope Wenger hasn't pulled off another coup with no competition.

This would be seriously annoying

EDIT: I would swap DDG for Benz, would be a good deal

Just one more player Chelsea bought never gave him a chance and then sold him. But Chelsea is great at transfers.
Their net spend is generally low and they move players on for generally good fees, making profits or minimal losses. So yes, from a financial perspective they are very good at transfers.

45m would be roughly break even for us imo, since we allegedly didn't pay Madrid the entire 60m upfront.

Now that would be stupid from Madrid. He's one of the best strikers in the world.

In Euro that works out at more than we paid for him last year. PSG aren't going to compensate us for the exchange rate being poor.

If it is €65 million then its roughly a 10 million drop on what we paid so wouldn't be the biggest loss in the world, considering he clearly wants out and only Bayern or Chelsea are likely to rival PSG by being able to afford his fee and wages and match his needs for location and competitiveness.

In short we have a shit hand here. We've a primadona who wants out and isn't afraid to throw his rattler out of the pram if he doesn't get his way. Sure we could keep him but what good would that do, he was poor last season, how bad might he be when he's being kept against his will. If we leave him to rot then we might score a victory for football and common sense but we'll shoot ourselves in the foot paying his wages and wasting a squad place on him.

I suspect he will go for less than €65 million and because he has Mendes on the case we're just gonna have to accept it.

It's possible, whispers of ronaldo/bale moving central and madrid wanting rues. That forces benzema out, BBC was never going to get a third season IMO.

benzema going to arsenal is very problematic. Defo title contenders.

You would think we would at least be in for him if he is available, considering our stand off with Real. I'll be gutted/worried if he ends up at the Arse.

Would we stand a chance though? We dont want to sell them De Gea.

If he's going to leave, then surely Madrid would want to work a deal with us. We have De Gea, after all; and they probably don't need the money from Arsenal.

If arsenal sign Benzema, they win the league for me.
I dunno, they've had very good squads before that look like winning the league until they bottle it late winter time. Benzema, Ozil and Sanchez would be amazing for them though.

They're dealing with a British club, the deal will be in pounds. The Euro exchange rate shouldn't effect this deal.
Di Maria is simply not worth paying what we bought him for. Even 45m would have been too much last season

No, they don't. Unless you mean the fourth place league title?

They've shown very little to be considered title contenders.
The form they showed at the end of the season was title winning.

They'll have beasts in sanchez, ozil and benzema. Beastly front 3.

Sure if coq or kosichney gets injured then they're fecked but their best 11 with benzema is enough to win the prem imo. Lets not forget they'll have cech between the sticks as well.

their performances against the top sides improved last year also.

For some reason I dont trust Arsenal to win the big games, except City. They beat City all the time.

Yup, I do trust Arsenal to finish 4th, though.

On a serious note, they bought Ozil and finished fourth, they bought Sanchez and barely finished third, and if they buy Benzema, some expect them to be serious contenders? Absolutely, no way. Their defence is always suspect and I'm not sure if Coquelin is the real deal, just yet. It's truly hard to take Arsenal seriously, if I'm being honest. If they mount a proper challenge this season, then they'd stand a chance in 16/17.
