Still a bit weird for an English football team.
Weird that a team that has 600 million fans world wide is announcing a signing in an appropriate time as per their current time zone. I'm sorry but Manchester United has grown much past a local English club. I think announcing it @ 1 am local time for them is weird.

This is interesting. Also a bit more on Ronaldo at the end.

EDIT:
Van Gaal says Cristiano Ronaldo is the type of player Manchester United need to compete with their rivals.

While the Dutchman would not be drawn on whether he thinks the Real Madrid star, 30, might return to United, he knows the Portuguese is regarded by United fans as the holy grail signing.

"I can imagine that. He is a fantastic player, I like him," he said.

When asked if he needed that kind of player to complete his squad, he said: "Of course."

Funny, Guardiola is the natural successor to LvG, especially if you keep in mind that Pep has basically followed on from LvG at both Barcelona and Bayern (successors in between).

Guardiola, Mourinho or Ancelotti. Hopefully the club will not appoint Giggs and lets him prove himself somewhere else.

Hm Ancelotti isnt a good league manager although overall he's great of course. And do you Think Mourinho will come to us or he's staying at Chelsea for good. Maybe he wouldnt refuse the 2nd choice to come to us, who knows.

Ancelotti's league record is mediocre at best and we are a team that demands winning the league unlike AC Milan and Real where the CL is perhaps more important. Mourinho's teams play like under dogs, this worked brilliantly with Porto, Chelsea at first and even Inter since those sides were not used to competing with the elite but for a big club, it just doesn't sit right with me to play like that. We should aim to impose ourselves the way Barcelona or Bayern do, and not aim to "frustrate" them. Guardiola has the right profile though. Won as much if not more than the other two and his teams aim to control a game rather than react to it which is what I think Man United's attitude should be.

Yep, it will be hard to say no to Giggsy getting the job when LvG leaves. I think Pep or Simeone would be good options, especially if LvG leaves with half a squad of spanish speakers.
I don't know about Simeone. The direction this team is headed isn't exactly suited for his brand of football. He'd be a much better fit at Chelsea.

Yeah, neither Ancelotti or Mourinho are flawless but we can't just filter out such a managers because we'll end up with another Moyes. I'd gladly take any of the three mentioned as well as Simeone or Klopp if it's possible. Giggs would be well down on my list though.

He did say he would be here for 3 years and he's keeping his word.

Nah its weird. Can't think of a European team ever doing it before.

Hopefully having already gotten our hands burned with appointing someone not equipped for a job the size of United, the business heads will insist on a proven manager. Pep seems the best fit as he's got the same obsessive tactical tendencies that LvG has, but I still like the cavalier flair I think Klopp would bring back to United.

I see where you're coming from but according to you. Success is the only factor you're basing the choice on. I think the profile and mentality of the manager is just as important factor. It makes no sense to pursue Guardiola or Mourinho, Klopp or Simeone as it sends the message that we have no identity whatsoever and are only after short term results. Look at Barcelona or Bayern lately, they made their appointment with a clear focus on the profile, sometimes it did not work obviously but when it does, it's more consistent and successful than anybody else.

Having appointed Van Gaal and knowing he will only be here for a limited period, it's clear which direction the club wants to go. A proactive brand of football aimed at dominating and taking charge. Pursuing Mourinho or Simeone after that simple makes no sense. A club that has no history of recent success and is desperate to simply compete and put itself on the map like Liverpool, City, PSG or Chelsea 10 years ago is justified in following this route but we are not like that, our profile and size makes it a responsibility to aim higher.

I don't think we can lure them. Let's hope Big Sam stays available when the time comes.

I think we should go for the best manager in the Premier League John Carver, lets hope none of the other big clubs have snapped him up by then.
