That is as difficult as it was being United's second best midfielder a few years ago.

If we decide to sell one of Jones/Rojo in order to make room for Stones then fine (I rate Stones higher than both, at least in potential) but Stones + Otamendi + our three senior defenders (assuming that Evans leaves) is overkill.

I don't rate Rojo as as CB. He could deputy for Shaw. If Evans leaves, that would leave us with Otamendi, Jones, Smalling and Stones. McNair can be loaned out for a season for regular playing time as currently Stones is way ahead of him in his development.

As for the first statement, you are right. There are not too many top English CBs around anymore but that is even more reason to make sure we don't let go of the best one to come around. It is not like he is just the least poor of the bunch. He genuinely looks like he will become one of the best CBs by the time he reaches his peak. He has it all, as far as I am concerned, to make it at United.

LVG does though. Which means that he'll get here at least an another season.

That is the only sticking point tbh. It will all depend on who LVG thinks will be the starting partnership for United if all are fit. I think it would be Otamendi (if we get him) and Smalling. If that is the case, I would hope we get Stones and put him as third choice behind those two.

If Chelsea really want him, only a matter of time before they get him. Personally don't understand the hype around Stones but no denying he's a good prospect.
He is far, far better than Mangala for starters. But then so are more than half the CBs playing in the PL.

Not true whatsoever. Mangala is judged as a £42m centre back, Stones doesn't have that burden upon him, he's the new kid who people are watching hoping he does well but with no expectation. People watch Mangala desperate for any sign that he was a waste of money (admittedly, he obliged on more than one occasion this season). However, Mangala is still a very good defender with a lot of potential and he showed his capability last season in big matches, but there's no denying he lacks consistency at the minute and is rash at times. Calling Stones far better than him is mad though.

“I’m aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight,” Delph said. “I’m not leaving. I’m staying at the football club and I can’t wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club.” - Delph

Just because Mangala was hyped and went for 42 million pounds does not make him a better CB. I watched him last year and he was a calamity each time. Stones on the other hand is very composed and has that air of self-assurance about him. Cannot say either of those two things about Mangala based on his time for at City so far.

Mangala is a disaster who has as much positional sense as my tv remote when it's lost down the back of the sofa.

So if he does go he will look a right tit?

Where did I say his price made him a better CB? I said his price means he is judged on much harsher terms, rightly or wrongly. He is undeniably still a good, promising CB with all the raw attributes to succeed. I watched a lot more of Mangala than you did and he gave a lot of assured, dominant performances including at home to Chelsea and Bayern in the CL.

Stones is hideously overrated on here. Not that I agree with the Mangala stuff, though.

People don't judge him differently because he is a 42 million pound buy. He is judged on his actual performances. His positioning, whenever I have seen him, has been poor. He jumps into tackles giving away needless free kicks in dangerous places and has no sense whatsoever of how an offside trap works. He was the poorest defender for you lot whenever I tuned into a Man City match with him playing.

Also, your point that Stones is not better than Mangala because both are judged differently is frankly nonsense. He has been better for Everton than Mangala has been for you. He is first choice for them while performing exceptionally well, especially considering his age.

Pointless defending Mangala on here so I won't continue with that, but I stand by my point that Stones is overrated.

I rate him higher than Jones, Evans, Blackett and McNair. Actually scratch that, I reckon he's better than Rojo too.

Can see Strootman being released from his contract by Roma the way things are going. The guy has the shittiest luck in football.
