Looks like DDG is staying for another year then.
Possibly means more that we've planned to spend about 75m, rather than a limit, and can spend more freely should an opportunity arise. What a bellend. It's been said a million times by everyone high up at the club. There's no set budget, we spend what we need to spend.
There's no way Woodward has at any time said to Van Gaal "well you've only got £75m left so spend it wisely."

Madrid are an impatient club that prides itself on assmebling the best players whatever the price so i just dont see them capping their spending at €25 million for one of the best keepers in the world (and undoubtedly the best keeper they can buy). I think they will be fussed and will receive heat from a lot of fans if they don't spend big to bring DDG in to replace Casillas. Was on the cards.Madrid know they can get him on a free next season and are not to fussed.Just hope De Gea knuckles down and puts it behind him.
Yes. LvG and Woody probably thinks that they can get a CB and a striker for a combined 60-75m, but they are willing to spend more if a player such as Bale becomes available.Possibly means more that we've planned to spend about 75m, rather than a limit, and can spend more freely should an opportunity arise.
if anything, PL players surely are the proven ones to cope with the rhythm"But we shall only buy when the player can give a contribution to our level. And, of course, that is in the eyes of our staff, but I have to have confidence that he can cope with the rhythm of the Premier League."
Van Gaal quote
So we're not buying domestically then? No Harry Kane?

You do realise we will have planned budgets/ forecasts?
If DDG is staying we are in for a striker.IMO we're not in for a striker. Didn't LvG rubbish the links to Cavani et all? Plus, today's reports that Chicharito isn't for sale.
The two positions are CB and the backup GK.
Yes, but it's worded in such a way that there might be a question mark over the ones he's looking at, so probably non PL proven.if anything, PL players surely are the proven ones to cope with the rhythm
Nicolas Gaitan it seems...Yes, but it's worded in such a way that there might be a question mark over the ones he's looking at, so probably non PL proven.
I wouldn't hold much credence to the 'Hernandez staying' reports just yet. He was behind Rooney, van Persie, Falcao, Welbeck and Wilson in the pecking order last year and look what's happened to three of those. LVG isn't a fan it's quite obvious.IMO we're not in for a striker. Didn't LvG rubbish the links to Cavani et all? Plus, today's reports that Chicharito isn't for sale.

I doubt that. LvG already emphasised that we had too many strikers last season, and also said that there is just one spot for a striker in the starting lineup. If DDG is staying we are in for a striker.
If DDG is staying we are in for a striker.
That's all true but I dont think going into season with Rooney, Wilson and Chicharito is very smat imo.I doubt that. LvG already emphasised that we had too many strikers last season, and also said that there is just one spot for a striker in the starting lineup.
He also said something about Romero, about it being a process. We'll be getting a backup keeper regardless of De Gea
Signing a striker wouldn't surprise me. I'm just thinking that the "at least two positions" he refers to in the interview are GK and CB. Striker is probably third in priority. That's all true but I dont think going into season with Rooney, Wilson and Chicharito is very smat imo.
At times you have to give up. We need an experienced defender, not an another young one with high potential. When we sign that experienced defender (Otamendi) then we will have four senior defenders in our team, which is enough. You don't give up on such a bright talent just because you have young defenders. He is just one year older than McNair but he looks much better and is already established for Everton.
Yeah, could be that.Signing a striker wouldn't surprise me. I'm just thinking that the "at least two positions" he refers to in the interview are GK and CB. Striker is probably third in priority.
I expect Romero will be one of the two, to replace Valdes. The other one will most likely be a centre-back, so that would mean Otamendi, whom I've been expecting us to sign once he's back from his holiday.
Letting RVP go without bringing in another striker seems risking to me - Rooney will get injured at some point this season, and he will go through a bad patch of form, so if Hernandez and Wilson or perhaps a player like Memphis out-of-position are the alternative options then I'm not if that is enough. But of course there are limited available options for strikers on the market anyway, so maybe risking it for a season in the hope of something better next summer is the thinking?
By saying we need to improve two positions he could just as easily mean back up keeper & CB, those two are certainties to be bought for, the striker less so imo.
Rather wonder what happened there. Were there injuries involved in his dip in form 13-14? Or was it because Bony was brought in? Not sure if he's a headcase, but maybe that 12-13 season got to his head.Ripped the league in 12-13
Did nothing in 13-14
Went on loan to Napoli in 14-15. Did nothing. Monk says he has no future at Swansea
I think we will be in for a striker.LVG said he told RVP that he was no longer needed, he didn't push for a move himself.I don't LVG would let him go without getting a replacement, RVP would have been very useful as a backup.I expect Romero will be one of the two, to replace Valdes. The other one will most likely be a centre-back, so that would mean Otamendi, whom I've been expecting us to sign once he's back from his holiday.

I think we're overanalysing LVG's words, he's simply giving us a bit of insight as to why it isn't as simple as identifying a good player and saying "we want him".
There's lots of factors in determining player suitability, including their prospective ability to adapt to the PL. That doesn't discount PL players; in fact, if anything, it gives the good ones a leg-up as they're 'score' well when being analysed.

Signing another one is pointless unless one of Smalling, Jones or Rojo leaves. And neither of them is going to leave this summer.
That is as difficult as it was being United's second best midfielder a few years ago.Rojo looks the least accomplished of the three. I seriously don't think we should let go of a talent like Stones, especially considering that Jones has not set the world alight either. Stones already looks like he could be the next best English CB at 21.
