Even still, signing him now instead of picking him up for nothing a fortnight ago would be fellainiesque in its stupidity.

A fortnight ago Milan had no chance of getting him since he wanted insane wages and United, Barca and Bayern were interested. Those clubs have since dropped their interest for various reasons.

It always amazes me how simple people think conducted multi-million pound transfers are.

Yeah, the minority might be completed very quickly if clubs can agree to a an easy set of terms but, even if it is an amicable agreement, there's going to be hundreds of pages of paperwork to sift through and many clauses to be negotiated.

And of course we're going to negotiate as low as we can. It amazes me further that people think our strategy should be "pay what want straight away".

There was someone in here yesterday who compared it to him doing his groceries. You just walk in, pay the set fee and then walk out again apparently.

This. I made this very point in the Schneiderlin thread. It's insane. FM generation thinking.

That's a good point. Hadn't thought of it like that.

I think the frustrating thing is how simple other clubs, Chelsea in particular, seem to make it look.

Muller + Robben for Di Maria, thats one heck of a tempting deal.

Muller AND Robben PLUS Cash for AdM ....no, we want Schweini in there as well.

Yeah, Bayern would give those 2 for ADM.
That could really happen.

The Bayern swap deal is probably the most ridiculous rumour I've heard/read this summer.

Lads read the SW article. Twas a fake rumour that was started by some twatter nobody and the British media went gung ho on it

It also made Guardian, Talksport and Goal gossip section when it isn't even from a real journo, amazing how so much media can fall for something so blindingly made up.

Nah I read it Stretch ;) I was only "replying in jest". Of course no one in their right mind is going to think Bayern would actually be suicidal enough to do that.

It just looks simple, theres always work behind every transfer, its not that Chelsea thinks of some player and just signs him the next day.

It doesn't amaze me at all. It gets muppets frothing all over the world and generates clicks. Clicks = £$€

People don't realize that particularly in the case of installments, you need to free up the money, organize your counts and other administrative stuffs, that's not really a straightforward thing.

Correct. It stands to Chelsea though that they can make the work look so simple while every transfer we are involved in seems to be an ordeal. Obviously 90% of what we read is bullshit but Chelsea have done a far better job of managing their perception than we have in the last few years.

Still as tempting with an extra 20 million Euros throw in with Di Maria? They're both great players but Robben is 31 and made of glass so not sure quite how good of a deal it is.

Edit: At work and just read the SW article. Never mind.

Not true. There was a long trail of articles and rumours before the Chelsea signings were made last summer. Only Cesc was a quick deal if I recall. Costa took ages for example. Also, we're not emotionally invested in Chelsea transfers, we are in United ones though which makes it seem longer. Further, you bring up Chelsea yet they've signed nobody yet this summer.

That's fair enough. Maybe I just don't notice as much although I do feel that Chelsea have a more streamlined and strategic transfer policy than is. They identify a player who will improve the team and then get him. Sometimes it feels like we are just slinging out enquiries for big names left, right and centre.

The transfer window has just opened. They are also not mentioned in connection to every player under the sun like we are. They aren't used by every player who wants an improved contract. This all adds to their perception and helps then get better value on deals without the Manchester United tax added to any player we actually want.

"Do you have a loyalty card, sir?" "Erm, no. What can I get with that.." "Well, its complicated..."

Plus add to the fact that Chelsea don't need as many quality players as we do. They can get by with 1 or 2 max additions, we simply cannot.

News on Casillas. Porto and Casillas seperated by 8 million. Any Spanish speakers with better translation than Bing/Google? Bing keeps translating Casillas to boxes

So far it looks like the signings are going to be of top quality.
RB - Darmian
CB - Sergio Ramos
CM - Schneiderlinn
LW - Depay

If we can get the above then I will be delighted. Add another CM and a striker and we are sorted. (Also a GK if De Gea leaves)
