I don't know why, but the muppet in me is not lightning up this transfer window.

Maybe past windows finally started taking their toll?

I am in agreement with you, I think the sagas of Vidal, Sneijder etc has a few of us burned but I think this summer we will get the majority of our targets.

Leicester City have agreed a deal to sign Shinji Okazaki from Mainz, subject to a work permit.

Sky Sports Deutschland: Real Madrid are interested in signing Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

His agent has also given an interview to Bild saying that Madrid have made an enquiry for Mustafi.

If schneither of the Sch midfielders end up coming then I reckon James McCarthy will be the next midfield name that the tabloids will start linking us to

I think he is a left footer so I don't think Van Gaal would be interested seem as we have Rojo with similar attributes

The interesting thing is that Madrid have enquired...and why might they want another centre back

Uh oh. I like how Mustafi has completely gone under the radar. While Otamendi has been getting all the headlines Mustafi has had a quiet but solid season under his belt. He's also a German international part of their world cup squad. Also only 23 years old.

Mundo Deportivo are reporting the Mustafi news as well. According to them Real Madrid have made contact for Mustafi and have identified him as a target over Otamendi, as he's a EU national.

They also mention Mustafi's father's interview with Bild.

I'm not sure if that is entirely true to some extent. I mean, if Van Gaal genuinely asked for Dani Alves and Ramos before going on holiday (which was before the Ramos thing kicked off I think), then I'd be amazed. Unless Van Gaal personally monitors all players contract situations, which I seriously doubt.

From what Van Gaal said this season, he didn't seem to have a clue about most of last year's signings. He barely played Herrera for months and admitted he didn't know what to do with Di Maria, which was reflected in him warming the bench for most of the 2nd half of the season. Unless Van Gaal is just a transfer Muppet that doesn't listen to his scouts and signs players based off players he's coached previously or seen on Revista de La Liga on a Saturday night.

If players become available e.g. Ramos' agent alerts clubs of his availability then Louis van Gaal will also be alerted and I'm sure his scouts are aware of his qualities, if he fits the profile then Woodward will be given the green light.

As for Herrera and Shaw, they were obviously lined up by the previous regime and Louis van Gaal likely gave the green light after reading the scout report. As for Angel di Maria he was actually name dropped by Louis van Gaal in an interview and i think the context was wingers.

Not only that, maybe as they knew long ago that de Gea wants to leave, they have discussed the best approach and agreed that they should take someone from Real, made a list whom LVG wants and Ed started to work on it.

You are probably right. And that's not a bad idea if true.

Wish Bale was coming our way

It would have been nice, but I prefer Modric, Ramos or Benzema.

Edit: The stories about Madrid targeting center halves make me optimistic about Ramos, I don't like it.

I think another factor might be that Van Gaal is a continental manager and they tend not to have hands on approach on transfers like British managers which is what we are used to. A lot of of these guys are used to being consulted and asked for their opinion whereas in Britain and especially in the case of Fergie, the manager is the one drawing up the list and pursuing it.

Would genuinely take Isco too, even though he's not the box-to-box midfielder that Van Gaal wants.
