Good. I know he only has a year left on his deal but this isn't just any player. He's imo the second best keeper in the world and he has over ten years left of his career. Real should have to pay a fee worth his ability and potential longevity.

Doesn't waiting an extra year represent significant risk for Madrid? I know De Gea is linked to Madrid by family, however, come next year they're going to face a lot of competition for De Gea from other large clubs, and especially ones who can offer substantial financial packages.

It's definitely a significant risk for Madrid to allow his contract run down with us, they'll be competing with pretty much everyone for his signature and I'm sure Barcelona would tempt de Gea because of his Atleti links...

Oh, does anyone else think that 33m is just to random.

If I was Woody, I would have asked for more. Either 40m or Ramos swap, or just wait for another year. Maybe do a Mourinho and threaten De Gea to be in bench for an another year (which would work nice for him considering that the Euro is next season).

My devilish theory:

We're not actually interested in Ramos, it's a long shot and Otamendi is the real target in defence. We're using Ramos to get Real to tell us to feck off and they'll give us a fair price for De Gea. They spend £25m on De Gea, we get Otamendi.

Fixed.

Yes but it would look like we failed which is not a good PR.

Of course we're interested in Ramos, he wants to leave and he's world class.

Tbf the papers know feckall , they are using 33 because it will be a record fee for keepers

It's the figure required to set a world record fee for a goalkeeper. Gianluigi Buffon's £32.6m move from Parma to Juventus in 2001 remains the highest transfer fee paid until now.

Not at all, it would look like we managed to get a fantastic price for a goalkeeper with one year left on his contract by screwing Madrid around.

Of course we're interested in Ramos, he wants to leave and he's world class.
He's also an incredibly low percentage play, we've basically gone after Madrid players in order of preference until one of them caused enough fuss to give us leverage.

I hope the Schneiderlin rumors are true! Would be a great buy, just the type of midfielder we need.

Florentino told him " calm, we will talk when you are back (from holidays)", "yes president, but listen the offers"

Two people could have a private conversation 10,000 feet under the sea, using telepathy, in a language that they've made up so only the two of them can understand it, and there will still be at least one journalist who pretends that they know what was said.
