Transfer Tweets - Summer 2015 | Stop Spamming - Discussion Should Relate to Tweets

Its amazing with the amount of absolute shite that gets posted in this very thread that a whole page is now dedicated to slating sport witness, the one media outlet that is actually good.

I think when this summer is finished we need to look back on this thread and have a hard look at ourselves.

Amen. Think some around here would prefer to live in blissful ignorance and just believe everything they see in the Metro or the Star instead of engage some critical thinking.

@Kroos_ControI Was an alternative to star, needed shorter than player."

Yep, I saw that. I'm not having a go at them as I respect their work with all these foreign sources, but for argument's sake they could have typed ''Montoya's agent'' and it'd have been even shorter.

As I already said, it's only natural to want a return for all your hard work, so drawing traffic towards their website is nothing to be blamed for.

Because it's a big deal for a small website run by a couple of people who started out as a tiny operation and are now established enough that they can get exclusive quotes directly from agents. They obviously get excited about being able to provide their own exclusive quotes. Nobody else got quotes from Januzaj's agent about the alleged deal done with Moyes in Marbella. All the papers were happy spinning the rubbish about that without even attempting to verify it, but only SW were willing to chase it down and prove it false. And then, guess what? All the major papers stole their Januzaj quotes without attribution.

Then why not just tweet 'Januzaj agent confirms player will stay at United - full story to follow?', and post the write-up in the next tweet?

They are using Manchester United to generate clicks just like everyone else. There's nothing wrong with that, they have to generate revenue for their business. They are one of the best sites for football news in my opinion, but let's not pretend they aren't doing this.

Bang on

Last couple of days this thread has entertained us with notions such as the fact Kane is definitely staying at Spurs, that @LennonNL is a hardcore Spurs supporter and that Pool and Juve are the only ones making moves so far. Coupled with discussions about beards and whether or not Sports Witness is good. Hurray for the transfer window!

Why on earth does it matter? So what if they build up a little anticipation for an exclusive? At no point have they lied, been deceptive, twisted a story to get clicks, or misled their audience. And as I said, their next tweet said the whole story right there on their feed, so you don't even need to click onto the site. This is the opposite of clickbait.

Damien, any chance that a similar idea to this thread can be replicated but for completed transfers only? With the automated stuff?
Not even possible on a technical level. They can't automate based on contents of posts.

Can we stop this sports witness bullshit with half of you bashing them and the others worshipping them as groundbreaking journalism? I know discussion is allowed but this is excessively strange.

I mean, just have a thread where complete transfer tweets are put and the magic that happens in this thread is replicated.
That's a lot of effort for someone though as it will be manually done. It's probably better to go to a sports website and check the completed transfers page.

I.e deleting duplicates and having the fancy standalone page.
Message Niall but I don't really see the point in it. Suppose if its done, the "Completed Transfers" link could go on the black navbar on the Transfer Tweets page.

Ronaldo is coming home?

How is it? You just duplicate the code used for this thread.

Then simply use this thread for gossip and have a seperate theead for confirmed transfers.

How does it pick up which tweets are for confirmed transfers and otherwise?

As I said in the post you quoted, "there's nothing wrong with that".

They have been a little deceptive with 'Barcelona ace' being the obvious example pointed out. If you think otherwise, no worries, lets just leave it there.

I'm starting to piss people off with my derailment of this thread, so I apologize for that.

A Bola: Atletico Madrid to activate Jackson Martinez's release clause at Porto.

Journalism at its best. Atletico Madrid are selling Mandzukic as they want a different type of striker and then the media say they want to replace Mandzukic with a striker whose playing style is exactly the same.

Nothing is happening at all. Just one big club needs to make a transfer and it will start to kick off. But been very quiet than expected.

Barcelona reportedly weigh up #Monaco's Aymen Abdennour as Luis Enrique wants CB competition for Javier Mascherano. (El Mundo Deportivo)

Agree that Sports Witness are a good follow, I like how they properly track a story's origins to allow their followers to form n opinion.

But, they have become a bit more sensationalist recently. No real issue as they need to generate revenue through clicks as much as anyone. As long as they continue to qualify stories I'll happily follow them.

We probably settle for €4m

sad but true...we really struggle to sell players for a decent fee

still better than paying someone else to play him

it's shocking really as Nani is without doubt worth 12-15 million minimum based on ability, experience and form last year

Such a valuable player, and yet only some club from Turkey is interested in him? Not even the club that apparently was doing well at last year?

Even though that's quite obviously true, I think the club's main goal is getting him off our wage bill. The transfer fee won't be of great importance IMO.

Hopefully Van Persie follows him out the door as he hasn't been the same for more than 2 years now and looks past it.
