Contrast a striker who enjoyed the best season in his career versus three who probably had their worst.
Don't expect many to agree with Aguero but:
Sergio Aguero says he can achieve all he wants at Manchester City amid Real Madrid links
I'm sure if Rooney wasn't crowbarred into the midfield he would have a few more goals....thank god Falco is gone and I hope RVP follows him out the door.
Andre-Pierre Gignac has joined Mexican side Tigres from Marseille on a free transfer. They have also signed Ikechukwu Uche from Villarreal.
Such a weird transfer.
I'm starting to wonder if ourselves, Bayern and Barca are simply not convinced he'll return to the player he was and are reluctant to give him a big, lucrative deal that he wants.
I'd say that is the reason.I'm starting to wonder if ourselves, Bayern and Barca are simply not convinced he'll return to the player he was and are reluctant to give him a big, lucrative deal that he wants.
2 great signings for Tigres. Not sure how they will be able to afford them though?
Got the impression he was playing both us and Barca and it failed miserably.
I'd say that is the reason.
I think maybe the clubs wanted him to take a deal where he had a chance to earn the big payday if he performed.
It's a shame as he was complete class before the back injury, but I can't argue with caution given some of our previous luck.
Its more a shame because he and Herrera in the midfield (with someone like Schneiderlin behind them) is a midfield that would be competitive with any other midfield in Europe at the moment.
He will stay, only to get a free transfer to Barcelona next summer, or for pennies in January.

If he got back to his best that would be a mouthwateringly good midfield.
Apparently it's not the fee holding up a potential deal, but his wage demands. Paying ridiculous wages for a player who might not get back to his best is bad business. If his price was really around €20M I don't see the harm in taking a punt on him TBH.

They simply cannot kick him out to another club, it does not work like that. He will have to agree to which team he wants to go to. If he has an agreement with Barcelona to get a huge signing on fee as a free agent, then he might just wait it out.I doubt BVB would allow him to stay without him signing that one year extension...I wonder what he was asking for exactly salary-wise that scared off all the top clubs?
TheUnitedWay actually replied with what I am thinking, it will be more about the wages and length of contract than the fee I imagine.

Yup, I think we backed out, but not based on his wage demands and rather the way he was playing the situation out. I seriously doubt he'd have made wage demands which we were not ready to fulfillWhatever he was asking, he managed to scare off both Barca and Bayern and perhaps LVG/Woodie got the sense he was stringing us along just to get leverage and cut him loose.

Yup I'd rather not go back for someone of that kind. That is exactly what I think, my opinion is we went in early and was prepared to give him what he asked for, but he was using us to get a bumper deal at Bayern then Barca. We got wind of that and moved on to more receptive targets...now he is left at BVB with no concrete offers and that's perfectly fine with me.
I agree with all that, we are in no position to be paying top tier wages to someone just getting back from a serious injury...I am glad we didn't buy The Stroot and Vidal for that exact reason.

Yeah, we have to be careful with the CM buys as Carrick is getting on and we can't afford to take risks with the replacements.
