Southampton set to finalise £3.5m deal for right-back Cedric Soares from Sporting Lisbon. Opens way for Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool.

We've got to be confident of signing someone else if we're letting Clyne go to Liverpool. Must be that Fabinho as I haven't got a clue who else we could go for. Unless we're going to stick with what we've got :nervous:

Their supposed sudden interests smells like a reaction to us not rolling out the red carpet for them to take De Gea.

They are bluffing, they cannot fit Varane, Ramos and Otamendi in the same side, unless they play with a back 3...and Benitez is not known for that.

Why is he a cnut?

Every time I've seen him live (in stadium), he's dirty and constantly looking for trouble. Hate his attitude on pitch and reminds me of that cnut a lot of sunday league players have. He just happens to be able to play to a professional standard as well.

We should counter their supposed interest, with some of our supposed interest in Ramos and/or Varane.

Unless they are replacing Varane so they can use him in the De Gea deal.

If they are selling Varane, I would think we would be at the top of the queue. We inquired about Varane and Bale earlier in the summer. Their sudden interest in Otamendi smells like BS to me. I hope we sign Otamendi and keep DDG...feck Madrid.

If Valencia starts as our RB next season I'm going to go fecking spare.

I'd be all for us making De Gea see the contract out like Dortmund did with Lewandowski.

I'd be ok with either Varane or Otamendi. Otamendi has really grown on me though, every time I have seen him play, even in the Copa America, he has never really put a foot wrong and appears tough as nails...he would suit us and the EPL perfectly IMO.

If Madrid are brazen enough to offer anything less than £25m I would say keep DDG, especially if there are no other GK prospects about and perhaps we want to give Leno another year before buying him.

Personally not a big fan, wouldn't be disappointed if we sign him, but certainly not one I'd be ecstatic about.

I still think we should force them to include a player. Varane, Benzema or whoever

£35m for Otamendi seems high, but what are we to do?
We need a top, experienced CB to lead the backline next season and it seems like Hummels isnt interested. I think Otamendi was our plan "B".

True, like I said, won't be disappointed if we sign him...

I think that is the approach that Woodie is taking...just stall with Real and lets see who blinks first.
I think they will, they are like a spoiled child who wants their toy...NOW.. and I think they want DDG to replace Casillas next season. We are in no hurry to sell DDG and we certainly dont need money, especially something around £25m.

He signed an extension to 2020 less than a year ago - I don't see him moving & is he that far ahead of McNair? He had some poor Champions League games - we need experience.

Exactly, as much potential as Varane shows, we need a leader who is tough and experienced...something in the Vidic mould....and they aren't too many of those types of CB's around today...my dream signing for CB for MUFC isn't Hummels....its Chiellini.

Yea, quite a sound approach, we don't really mind not selling and they don't have any forward planning...

Really?

Don't know who he is but seems to have a lot of saints fans following him. Would be pretty stupid if we're holding off on Schneiderlin for Schwinie.

You are referring to Varane yes?

I can understand you wanting someone more experienced than Varane, but the difference is astoundingly clear at the moment.

Much, much better. Varane is already one of the best defenders in the world.

Personally I would sign Morgan over Bastian at this point.

Schneiderlin is one of the most solid CDM/CM's in the EPL and is exactly what we need to shield the back four, also we cannot expect to rely on Carrick so much, especially with us challenging on all fronts next season.
Schweinsteiger always seems injured plus he is getting on in age.
