Good thing, always thought Clyne was a minor upgrade on Valencia.
The problem is though there's not any major upgrades realistically available. Maybe Dani Alves but his age would be an issue, unless he's a stop gap whilst we wait for a true replacement to emerge.

Yeah given Alves's recent quotes, I'd say it's exactly that. Alves has said he feels undervalued at Barca and is more than likely leaving, he wants them to offer more but they won't so he is off. He ruled out PSG so I guess we are his best option. I also think it means LvG has spotted someone in the Youth Team he will promote, or has his eye on another talented youngster, or he feels with Alves and Valencia he has enough cover (2 per position) and can maybe wait until next year. He's obviously seen something he doesn't like in Clyne.

I was really against the possibility of us signing Falcao but I suppose it wouldn't be such a bad thing from the club's point of view.
From Falcao's point of view, though, it doesn't make much sense. Being in and out of United's team didn't exactly help his form and that won't really change with us. Strange if he agreed to be 2nd/3rd choice here when he could move somewhere and start more often than not.

Falcao obviously believes in himself and wants to prove he can be successful in the PL. Apparently he told Van Gaal that he needs a full preseason but he simply hadn't shown enough to take that risk.
If he's going to Bayern we're getting Schweini on 90% but I still think it's a typical rumor mongering before the final announcement of his future.

Eto'o was a pretty decent signing for us. Would have been better if he was our second choice striker rather than our first but he still had something in the tank for us.

There were occasions around December where he was playing on the last defender and making runs for the through ball that never came from midfield. Does he still have the pace to latch onto those if they did come is an entirely different question. To be honest, he kind of regressed as the season went on, whether it was fatigue or loss of confidence.
