Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

Sums up how mental our transfer approach has been that I’m very impressed by that bid

I like the way we are moving quickly, in previous years we've taken ages to get the ball rolling.

That's the right level at which we should be bidding. This is not a special talent. Looks like your typical run of the mill brute. At least 3 of those pop up in the PL every year. Max we should go to is £40m and that's only because of age.

Could we please take a look at Brassier from Brest? Arguably the best CB in France last season and available for 15m euros.

I don't agree he's your 'run of the mill' brute, but he's certainly not a generational talent in terms of just footballing ability. I think one of the reasons we are interested is because he is big and strong enough for the EPL, which we're going to need alongside Martinez. He's also not bad on the ball and still has time to improve that, plus he can play both sides pretty well.

He's not a scratch on a young Rio though, who we paid the kind of premium price for that Everton seem to want. If he was, I'd pay it in a heartbeat.

Brassier is a good fit for Brest and really supports them.

Guéhi doesn't have the aerial dominance to be one of Lisandro's partners at CB, in my opinion. Same with Todibo.

Yoro would be great but will probably wait for Madrid.

De Ligt is a marginal upgrade on Maguire. A bit more mobile and can receive the ball better under pressure and from difficult angles.

I understand why Branthwaite is the number 1 target.

De Ligt is one of the best ball playing CB's in the world, he's not a marginal upgrade on Maguire for a side that's trying to play from the back and attack with a high press.

Martinez couldn’t stay fit last season. Who said it wouldn’t be the same this season? We need 2 centre backs.

We can't build a squad based on worst case scenarios.

Also, funds are limited and there are other positions that require strengthening.

I don't know. I think CB is in pretty dire need of work now. Varane is gone, Evans really should be gone, and ideally the club would sell one of Lindelof/Maguire (preferably the former). I think this is where the Tosin links made some sense as he would have allowed them to fill out the depth chart without a big outlay and move on Lindelof.

As it is we're staring down next summer and Both Maguire and Lindelof leaving with no money coming in for them and having to fill their spots.

It does need work, but we're not going to be able to get everything done within one summer.

I do expect us to try and sell Lindelof, and if he goes then maybe someone else will be brought in.

As for Evans, I really don't see why he should be gone. He's a good player to have around as a fifth option or so, experienced, wouldn't be on high wages.

Evans is going to be what? 36? And he was breaking down as the season went on. I'm as happy as anyone with his contributions and thought he outperformed expectations but right now I don't think it's a reliable option in the event of another rash of injuries.

I guess we'll see but yeah the ideal situation to me is selling Lindelof and using that money towards another CB.

Poor squad planning to let this all come to a head in the space of two seasons.

He shouldn't have been playing as much as he did. And he shouldn't play as much next season. That's what needs amending - the injuries at the back, because he's be a great option as backup for a match here and there.

If we let him go I doubt we'll replace him, with him being a 36-year old fifth-sixth choice CB. So it's him or no one. Might as well be him.

I would ideally like 2 centre backs as well. However, it's important to plan appropriately. Martínez is one of our best and most important players. If he's gonna play LCB, we should be targeting players we can pair him with. Branthwaite is ideal in this sense.

How much would de Ligt cost? I'm not completely sold on him but if a move for him is smoother and cheaper than Branthwaite, it's probably the move to make.

I love Martinez but I’m not sure we can have full faith in him being fit for the full season. Isn’t Branthwaite left footed? Ideally we sell Lindelof and buy a right footed centre back aswell.
