Who'd have thought that come transfer deadline day, with us languishing midtable that there would be nothing going on at all. Not even left field rumours...obviously the ownership / structural changes are the main factor...

yea it was expected but still a bit depressing

I'd much rather it stay that way. Rather than making hopeless signings like Sabitzer or Weghorst and watching people desperately convince themselves they will be good, it's better to wait till the summer and buy proper players.

Loaning kids with the view to summer transfers, something stinks of pure profit transfers to me.

I just don't think there is any room to make signings, even loan signings really. It sounds like FFP is really tight for us. I'm sure the new structure is a factor too as you say as they won't want to rely on the old structure for targets.

Official: Isak Hansen-Aarøen joins Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen are taking their sweet time to formally announce this transfer, leaving us with this teaser instead.

EDIT: They finally announced it

Any reports on how much?

Hopefully taking a hit in January will give us a little more wiggle room in Summer. Clearing wages and some small fees coming in versus no incomings will help balance the books. Then in the summer getting rid of Martial and probably Sancho fully will have our wages looking much better.

Weghorst and Ighalo are evidence enough that bringing somebody in for the sake of it isn’t worth it.

For sure. I think this is definitely the plan. I don't see what we could have realistically done (considering the financial restraints) that's would have transformed our season this year anyway.

Thanks to @Berbaclass who posted this earlier (Tier 1):

Tier 2 (based on initial info from Rich Fay; the article isn't attributed to anyone):

I'm convinced this is a great move for him. Also, securing sell-on clause and matching right for a player, whose contract was ending, is great business.

Anyone that’s really followed what’s going on? We were never going to buy or loan in January.

He will be 35 in the summer. We need to move from that.

Bring young promissing striker and let him battle with Rasmus.
I agree about moving on from signing short term mid-to-late 30's strikers.

I'd say, if we've got the funds in the summer, I'd prefer a more in their prime #9 to fill the role that Martial should have been playing as the senior striker that Hojlund can learn from and understudy to an extent. Rather than another young promising striker to go along with Hojlund and Garnacho. We need someone who is already more clinical, not another highly rated but still young and raw talent - as we have that covered with our two exciting prospects.

Agree.
In ideal world it would be someone like L Martinez. But we burned so money in last few years, I doubt it will be someone in that mould.

If we can't triker in their prime years, i would rather have someone young and promising. At least it would be entertaining.

And I am kinda tired of overhill the players. Case is already slowing down, and we had bunch of them since Fergie time.

Yeah Lautaro Martinez is interesting shout, could see us going for Zirkzee if we went down the young and promising route

A few more clubs are monitoring Leny Yoro now:

Source (Tier 1):

His signing would be like a statement to claim we want to get back to the top. One of the most hyped CB of his generation. I dont know him that well to judge him but I've never read anything negative yet. It will be hard to beat Real though.

Our FFP situation isn‘t great: signing an 18 year old cb for that much seems like a huge gamble.

The noise coming out about our financial situation isn't very comforting.

I don't think it's just us, basically everyone is skint on the FFP balance sheets, which is why there were no high profille transfers at all in January.

I'd expect normal service to be resumed when everything resets in the summer.

I'd rather have the club chase players entering the final year of their contract than waste a summer trying to lure de Jong, who never wanted to come.
