By my reckoning we would have needed 8 signings to complete the squad in this window so it was a tall ask:
New GK
Backup GK
New RB
New CB
DM cover
CM upgrade/alternative
New ST
Backup ST

We got 5 of those so not bad at all. Plus the added short-term LB due to injuries.

Whether we got the right players is still up for debate. Midfield I’m not so sure but if you look at the market then it was challenging to compete for the top prospects.

The lack of outgoings probably stopped us from getting a couple more done.

Maguire, McTominay, Van De Beek, Martial and Greenwood should ideally have been moved on. We would probably have needed to sell either AWB or Dalot to upgrade at RB. We’re also carrying some excess by having Sancho, Diallo and Pellestri so if we wanted to really push the envelope we could have decided to make some cuts there.

I think we’ve probably also further reduced our total salary costs this window even despite the Rashford increase. Bearing in mind we had obviously created some room by terminating Ronaldo’s deal last season.

Sum people on this forum :lol: I'm pretty sure two weeks or so ago people were saying this was a good window.

I think it's actually pretty decent window could have been better had we not overplayed our hand on Maguire and Mctominay transfers .

Well Amrabat, Reguilon and the turkish GK - suddenly the window looks much better. Because if there was one type of player we really needed, it was an Amrabat-style of player

Anyone know what our financial situation will look like in January/the summer? Will we have to swallow the FFP excuse again assuming the glazers are a still here?

Im curious on this too. Did we go for the loan with Amrabat because we’re completely skint or are we just trying to give ourselves some flexibility.

Utd are right.

People need to get off Football Manager and step into the real world. Mount, Onana and Amrabat were the first choice reinforcements Ten Hag wanted. Hojlund may have only been his second choice, but Kane was never realistic to start off with.

All the noises out of the club were that Maguire and McTominay were considered useful members of the squad that we were happy to keep on the bench, unless somebody could pay enough to change our minds. Just because half the transfer forum was desperate to get rid of them, that doesn't mean the manager was.

Reguilon was a gimme considering we got him for a £0 loan fee and he'll only be here till January. And Altay is just a warm body to fill the bench.

This window has gone as well as could be expected. We couldn't force other teams to buy our deadwood. And we've bought well, considering our limited budget.

In the next 30 hours we seem to do (complete) deals for:
* Henderson (out)
* Bayindir (in)
* Reguilon (in)
* van de Beek (out)
* Amrabat (in)

Heck a lot to do.

And absolute silence on Bailly front.

Henderson & Bayindir are done deals.
Reguilon waiting for announcement.
Amrabat is a here we go.

What about Donny, Bailly, MG - will they move?

Just under 8 hours left.

Balance for what? I'm sorry, for what McT provides (hopefully as a sub at most), you might as well just try Hannibal there . All the tenacity but he'd still give away fewer fouls and make himself available for the ball as well as moving it on more effectively. Scott's...taller- and allegedly the 'pet' of one or more senior figures who champion his cause and that's it. Not selling him is a waste of a FFP 'home-grown' opportunity. Just another indication of how much we need an outsider top-bracket DOF to come in and lead on reshaping our squad's technical profile as well as on pathways into the first team for promising youngsters...

Yeah definitely overplayed our hand there
TBF, we did agree a price for Maguire. We just couldnt get rid of him. Part of me is thinking im happy we didnt get Pavard (if he was the choice).

Think 30m for McT would have been a good price for us.

Maybe he is considering him as defender as well now we didn’t sign an extra defender.:confused:

Emergency defender if we move to a back-3, late in games maybe. I'm not a huge fan of that approach anyway because of the amount of pressure it invites on and the risk probabilities, but if we were grinding out a one goal margin win at Anfield or Emirates or Etihad etc then, maybe. Though you might as well just throw Harry on in that scenario, since we're not getting shot of him either and he's...generally alright as a deep-lying defender in a compact back 3 (still should have sold him though and brought in Tolibo or whoever for similar money).

Imagine in hindsight we'll be regretting turning down £30m for McTominay next summer.
Yup. He'll probably play a minor role these next two seasons and then leave on a free. Even if you're of the belief that he can be moderately useful as a squad player, the FFP ramifications of getting 30m for him would've been tremendous for us.

Amrabat makes this a much better window.

I think we are well placed to fight for 2nd place with Liverpool and arsenal.

Steady! Let's try to dominate a game first without our midfield melting away like butter

We already made that amount from selling two academy players, so pure profit in FFP terms. Didn’t seem to make much of a difference in our spending.

The Glazers have a hard limit on what they want to spend before the sale and at this point I’d say that’s more of a factor than FFP.

You do know that's just standard talk right? No manager or club goes out to say "hey this players are absolutely of no use to us we're looking to sell".

Ten Hag clearly doesn't rate neither but that doesn't mean we're willing to give them for free. They'll be moved on eventually as we raise more funds to get the replacements.

Another report with nothing in it from Luckhurst, I would demote him to tier 3 after this window.
Most of the report's fluff, but the first sentence is the key here. Basically, clubs like Lazio that were interested in Greenwood are no longer pursuing the players after the negative reception they got over the links on social media. We'll see if there are still any interested clubs at this stage, but time's running out.
