I hope midfield is a 1st priority and not something we'll deal with depending on how much we pay for a striker or 2.

Tielemans has been a disaster all season - and I just don't see what he offers that should make anyone believe he is what is gonna take us closer to City. He is not defensively great, he doesn't score a lot of goals (4-5 on average) - so he certainly wont improve us. McAllister and Caicedo would improve us - especially Caicedo as he offers that mobilty and power we lack. The ability to drive forward past players with the ball. I mean even a limited player like Mario Lemina occationally has that quality which he showed a few times against us - none of our midfielders can do that. So if the money is there - I would go for him, Kim from Napoli and one quality striker. Osimhen is the dream but he is too expensive, but someone like Jonatan David might be affordable and would improve us. But if there is money around - I would prefer Kane or Osimhen
If we find an extra £150m maybe we'll go for MacAllister and Caicedo but I'm not looking at them as realistic options. MacAllister to Liverpool for about £70m looks all but done. Don't know where Caicedo will go but looks like he's on the move. If we could sign him I'd be delighted, I think Caicedo's brilliant and could perform both the number 8 and number 6 role really well for us. Striker needs to be the priority above all else ultimately so it makes sense to devote the most funds there.

If the £100m-ish budget is true then I’d want to do something like below.

£100m for a world class striker. Kane or Osimhen are obviously the leading candidates. Martial might add £15m plus some saved wages and just go with Rashford as backup CF seeing as we have Garnacho and Sancho for LW, Antony and Amad for RW.

Then improving the midfielder by selling surplus players. So Elanga (£8-10m), Van de Beek (£12-15m), McTominay (£25m). That gives you around £50m to spend which would get us Caicedo even if he was £60-70m as three players wages saved likely covers the difference. Or we could look at something like Rabiot, Kokcu, Neves if we want something a bit different.

At the back, we can move for Frimpong by selling AWB or Dalot, Ethan Laird, Williams and Telles. Even with reasonable fees we should be able to raise the funds here.

Bailly and Maguire plus wages saved gets you Kim Min-Jae or some other younger CB to partner Martinez/rotate with Varane.

Releasing De Gea, selling Henderson should get us a solid budget for a starting keeper. If De Gea stays we would still have funds from selling Henderson to target a David Raya type. We may need a 2nd keeper as well. Henderson & Raya swap feels like a sensible solution.

It’s all doable even without a takeover but it’s a lot of ins/outs for each area of the field. Wherever we are able to make sales we’ll then strengthen that area.

I think the £100m transfer budget is red herring. My guess is that Arnold is doing an anti-Woodward where for the second summer in a row he briefs the press that we are skint(remember last summer when we had a 20m transfer budget?). I think he is trying to get stop the usual fleecing that we've been guilty of, exacerbated by Woody's "we can do the transfer market what other teams only dream of" comment.

The reason I say this is some more reputable sources have said that our transfer budget is closer to £150m + sales. If you think about it logically we've had some pretty strong links with a CF, CM and a good CB, plus a potential RB and a cheap GK. It would be impossible to sign anyone if we were working only with 100 mil, but throw in an extra 50 and everything makes sense.

As far as our signings go I think we will see a summer of:

CF - Kane/Muani
CM- Rabiot and Caicedo/Lavia/Kone
CB- Min Jae or the France CB
GK - Raya or Sommer

Outgoings:
Maguire - 20-30mil
McTomminay - 35 mil
Henderson - 20 mil
Elanga - 5-10 mil
Potentially Lindelof - 25-35 mil

I have a sneaky feeling that we will have some sort of bid for De Jong again. He is Ten Hag’s ideal midfielder and if we make the CL - he will be top of of our list along with a striker.

Barca have also won the league so some part of his unfinished business seems to be done.

don’t want to be a muppet on this but I can’t shake of the possibility of us losing an entire summer trying to chase him again.

Don't do this to yourself mate. With Busquets leaving, I don't think they will let go of De Jong as well.

"Showed super interest" is a nice euphemism for massively overpaid.
Say they've paid £10-15m for him but in his breakout season turns out like Moises Caicedo, would they still have massively overpaid in your opinion?

Even if he's useful but not as talented as Caicedo they'll make profit on him.

He probably won’t get the chance to breakout at Chelsea though. Just get shunted around the loan system. Part of Caicedo’s development is going to a team like Brighton and playing every week.

Fully agreed with our top two priority areas.

Think other positions (RB, CB and GK) will be dependent on sales. I think Maguire will definitely be sold, so expect another CB to come in and maybe we will sell one of AWB or Dalot but it's not as pressing an issue.

I'd love a GK too but reports of DDG getting a new contract and Henderson's injury probably make that less likely at the moment.

Suppose the interesting business will be what we can do on the cheap to plug other gaps.

Harry Kane
Frenkie De Jong
Kim Min-Jae
Adrien Rabiot
Marcel Sabitzer (on a permanent deal)

Would this be a good window?

Is it me or is our club so trigger happy when it comes to contract renewals?

Don’t get me wrong , Martinez is quickly becoming one of my favourite players but he has only been here a season. Unless there are other clubs looking to poach him, I don’t see why we should be considering giving him a bumper contract so soon. Our funds are better utilised towards our summer transfers.

Casa,Caicedo and cheap playmaker is perfect but reckon we get maybe starter CM and Rabiot on a free too. Unfortunately that's likely to leave us short of a midfield profile in that area. So we either don't get a technical ball player or don't get a mobile 8. Frustrating really because we are always left short of something in midfield.

There's very little noise about signing two midfielders, hopefully that's purely down to the fact our outgoings haven't been sorted yet

It depends what his wages are today - it would not be fair if his wages were 1/3 of the other first-team players.

People really need to give up on De Jong. It's just not going to happen.

It was last summer or retirement home. It wont happen now for the next 5 years, which will be his best years. So i hope we forget about him, just wasting time and resources for ntohing

Yeah moved on from him last summer

From who?

We're awful at selling players to begin with, then add in players that nobody wants.

I can see the likes of Newcastle taking McTominay for around £30 million and West Ham / Villa / Spurs going for Maguire for a similar amount.

Played what, two matches? Where he scored a tap-in? Exciting player by Norwegian standards but still some way to go to be considered for bigger clubs.
Get him in just so we can slate him for being shite and throw curses at the recruitment team for buying such an under developed and not ready made player

We need to bring them in before they are valued to high. When you wait, you pay the premium. And no, he can’t help us right now. But a 16 year old playing and dominating the game with men is someone you need to move fast on.

I bet he is a player who a lot of clubs and fans will talk about very soon.
