Henderson is a worse goalkeeper than De Gea and the stats show that. People are going overboard on how bad they think De Gea is. He can be improved on but not by just any crap keeper.

If we're going cheap you'd expect Raya won't cost much with just 1 year left on his contract. Andre Onana would be my choice considering I've heard he's available for around €40m but either would be decent options. How Raya handles the step up in pressure is the only question I have with him but I do like him a lot.

Oh I would want Costa over any of them bar Maignan but can't see us signing him

I'd be all over that but Bayern/Tuchel and City (losing Gundogan) would presumably have the edge over us.
Isn't he quite injury prone? I think he's be a good profile of midfielder for us to get and shouldn't be too pricey either.

Why because it’s not the news you want to hear? feck me football fans view of journalists boggles my mind, it truly does.
No, it's because he's linking to an old article from back in February and choosing to do so when fan sentiment towards DDG is at a low point. This isn't news, it's an old comment from DDG so why the fresh tweet about it?

My bad; I didn't notice this. I'll delete the Tweet accordingly.

No problem. My criticism was aimed solely at Simon Stone rehashing old news. You do a great job keeping us updated with the tweets!
Thanks! I typically am vigilant of stuff like that, but I let slip this time. This is what I get for trusting very reliable journalists like Stone.

You can’t tell me he wasn’t an adequate backup?

He’d be a fine back up even now and it wouldn’t be costing anywhere near £200k per week for the privilege!
Romero had unbelievable stats. In 74 games for United across all competitions he only conxeded 30 goals (source: footystats). Those are ridiculously good numbers (better than Schmeichel and van der Sar), and I never understood why he didn't play more often.

Tier 3:

Methinks that a bunch of agents are starting to approach Manchester United after the recent de Gea story about him possibly not being their #1 keeper.

He only ever played in the Cup games which were mostly against weaker opposition. Its totally distorted stats.

He was a good goalkeeper but let's not claim he was better than De Gea.

The only run of games Romero got outside of cup appearances he looked shaky and dodgy. This place loves nothing more than romaticing players who don't play that much.

So shaky and dodgy backup for £200k per week or shaky and dodgy for £40k per week… still seems like a better backup than DDG, which was the point.

This. Current De Gea fills me with more confidence than Romero ever did.

Ten Hag on whether Amad's future is at United:
Yes. Of course, we loan such players to make development and make progress to bring them back, that is the aim of the loan. So we are really strong with them, we mentor them, we follow them, we have communication over the season, especially (technical director) Darren Fletcher invests a lot in such processes, the aim is to bring them back but as a better player with experience.

Tier 2:

  • Despite the growing interest, there is no guarantee that United will bid for Declan Rice.
  • Reminder: United are also linked to Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic

Because we usually fielded him versus League Cup quality sides and Europa League minnows.

Injuries have hampered him and we've not been hampered by him being on big wages but he's an example of how selling youngsters when their stock is high can be a good move. Some might backfire but more often than not you we could generate decent money if we sold youth team players with potential but don't seem like a sure thing.

100% agree with you. This is something we should do more of. Sell young players while they have some high sale value. There is no need to keep loaning them out when there is high likelyhood that they won’t have quality to play for us or they we don’t have spot for the development next couple of years. For this reason we should really look at selling Williams and Elanga this summer rather than loaning them out
