Pretty sure it was an obligation and not an option. If they qualify for the Champions League don’t they have to buy him?
No one really knows what the conditional obligation is based on. When L'Équipe published an article on Bailly a while back, they didn't really cover anything about the conditions behind an obligatory purchase. It may be based on CL qualification, but if that was the case, then we'd have learned about it a while back.

The CL clause was mentioned when the deal was done. I saw that and a requirement to play 50% of games. Heaven knows how many he’s played.

Thanks for the reminder. FYI, make sure to put this Tweet under a quote/spoiler so that it doesn't pop up in the feed.

Cool no prob. Anyway, hopefully Fab is mixed up and the deal is done.

From Luckhurst’s article:

Marseille have an obligation to permanently sign the on-loan Bailly for €6million if they qualify for the Champions League and he plays a certain number of matches but the latter is unlikely.

He played:
- 13 games in Ligue 1 (4 starts, 9 off the bench)
- 1 game in French cup (1 start, red carded) - out of 4 possible games
- 5 games in UCL (5 starts) - out of 6 possible games

Total: 19 games played (10 starts) out of 38 (50% games played)

In terms of minutes - he only played 763 minutes out of 3420 possible (22% minutes played).

Out of 19 matches missed, he missed 5 due to injury and 5 due to red card suspension.

Interesting. Well all reports suggest he is required to play 50% of games so they will probably keep him out of the team from now.

We will see. But at least he is reportedly not injured currently, so he is able to play

Tier 1 (BILD article with this info was also includes Tobi Altschäffl as the author):

I have as much faith in the club selling and buying players in a manner befitting a top club as I do Maguire being known as the best CB in world football.

To be fair didn’t we have a major overhaul last summer as well? Just seems the rumours about not wanting to move almost an entire squad out in one summer was true

Some journo trots out this crap every season and it gets lapped up. A massive clear out in one window is a ridiculous notion and fairly risky, so no surprise it never happens.

It's not "some journo". It's every journo at the same time, which indicates this is a briefing from the club. In other words, the usual PR after a humiliating loss.

New crisis PR brief just dropped. Take it while it's hot.
Panic PR briefs. Actually embarassing
This brief bollock talk I find so fecking hilarious. We’re in a perpetual state of anger.

Good news: PR Brief (we’re still shite!!)
Bad news: See I told you we were shite! Why does this club never do anything good!
Club does something good: SMACKS OF PR BRIEF BOLLOCKS!!

Do you really think the club have got time to source out Journo’s and leak all transfer News because we got knocked out? Take off the tin foil hats guys. please!!!!!

What an absurd post. We've seen the club use this playbook time and time again over the years, with predictable timing.

By briefing we’re selling half the squad?
Its not a realistic plan. Its not attempting to be realistic. They're just feeding the sharks.
Hopefully because if selling Martial to fund transfers is the plan then its a dumbass plan.

The intention to sell is all good, but can we get the buyers to pay.

Last couple seasons, bar Daniel James sale, we got under 20mil combined fee from all the sale and loan. Just like Lingard Chong previously, they went on loan then come back until his contract expire. Telles, Bailly may be those in this coming summer unless we can pull another Matic where we reach an agreement to terminate his contract.

Really difficult to see us getting serious dough selling high paid underachievers.

Jan. 2020: Clear-out after Burnley humiliation. Promises of rebuilding.

July 2020: Clear-out after finished 33 points behind 1st. Some of the characters supposedly getting cleared out left this summer - 2 years later... Others are still present. Promises of rebuilding.

2021: Clear-out 5 days after Young Boys embarrassment.

2021: Clear-out after Leicester 4:2. More clearing. More rebuilding.

I'm not spending any more time. Clearing, rebuilding, restructuring...

Just me or is transfer talk futile until we get the ownership sorted?
It shouldn't be. If the club gets sold, that could obviously unlock more transfer funds, but ongoing business activities (including transfers in and out) don't stop just because we're in the middle of a deal.

To pretend PR briefs aren’t a thing is naive, even by your standards.

Selling half the squad, hiring a DOF soon, getting ready for a busy summer, etc. The message isn't always the same, but the tactic is.

So how do you explain, that essentially, the same articles that have come out today, with maybe some updated info, because, y’know it’s been 3 weeks since the clear out was initially reported at the beginning of the month & we’ve all known about for a while now. But y’know let’s forget all that because it doesn’t follow the CAF narrative that is loss = PR Briefing. feck me this site can be draining sometimes.
