Is Mac Allister really that good? He seems tidy and accomplished whenever I watch him but nothing particularly impressive.

Source (Tier 2):

The tug-of-war for Kolo Muani has begun. Eintracht's star striker will be one of the hot items on the summer transfer market.

The initial contacts were made during the winter transfer window. They've been the team that's made the furthest progress up to this point.

I see Mac Allister as a slight upgrade in Eriksen in stamina, defensive contribution. That good means special in some way like KDB Modric Kovacic, which IMO he's not.

Tier 1:

  • Messi's future is linked to Busquets'.
  • The Aouar situation.
  • Feyenoord's Kökcü on PSG's agenda. There are already contacts.
  • Greenwood, technically liked by many teams, including Milan.
  • Manchester United will insist on Kane.
  • Aouar's camp is currently in talks with Roma, but Milan and Frankfurt are other options that are still being kept alive.
    • Roma's currently in the lead.
  • Barcelona's keen on Matheus Nunes, but he's too expensive for them.
The United-related bits:

Ten Hag on whether he wants Martial to stay:
From my point of view, yeah. It's difficult to say because the history [with injuries] says different. I want him to be because I think he's a great player - he has definitely the qualities to play in top football - and when he is fit our team play better.

I would be happy with Kane, Kovacic/Rabiot/Lavia and Caicedo/Frenkie for 200m and McTominay, Fred, Elanga and Pellistri moved on for about 75m

Ten Hag on whether he wants Martial to stay:

If we keep Martial, I could see us going for a lower tier of striker in the summer and let them battle it out for starting each week. Sign Kane or Osimhen and Martial's chances of featuring will get slashed and I'm not sure he would be up for it.

Martial has absolutely zero say in who we sign. He’s fortunate it looks like he’s getting yet another chance. Him being fit should be treated as a bonus and not in any way expected. And I love him as a player. There’s no doubt ETH will demand we sign a top striker this summer.

It’s not a battle when Martial won’t be fit for half the season. I don’t care if Martial isn’t up for it, he’s not reliable enough.

I will be beyond angry and flabbergasted if we don’t sign a starting striker in the summer. Martial isn’t the one.

Well, he was very decent and good enough to start for Argentina at the WC, however Enzo Fernandes played even better.

That said, he would be a significant improvement over McTominay of course and can deputise for Casemiro when needed, but wouldn’t provide what de Jong or Bellingham could alongside Casemiro.

Eth isn't going to say that he's desperate to ship Martial out. Martial is a top class striker, one of the best in the league.... when he's fit. He's on a high wage, so no-one is going to buy him and risk paying a huge wage to a player who may be injured for half a season. With Martial and Rashford, I think that the amount we spend on a striker may depend on whether we are prepared to reintegrate you know who. With three options already in place (Martial, Rashford and XXXXXX), we may very well go with a development project (Sesko, Hojlund, Ferguson or Roque), and one year on see whether we want to give Martial a new contract, get Kane on a free, or go for another development project. If you know who is let go / sold this summer, we cannot rely on Martial, so we will likely bring in a more established striker like Kane or Osimhen, in which case I doubt we will go for a development project as well this year, as it would destroy our transfer budget.

Yeah I get that, I more meant from Martial's perspective. He's not reliable at the best of times and if he's firmly a no.2 option I could see a scenario where he's not motivated or happy and it's reflected in the few appearances he does get.

I just get the impression that going by the price tag of Kane/Osimhen and ETH generally being happy with Martial when fit that we'll go for that development project type option instead.

He’s already starting for his NT and Uruguay aren’t exactly minnows.

He needs playing time to develop, he was held back by his crappy loan at Alaves.
Fair enough. I'm basing my opinion on watching him play, admittedly a too-small sample size. And I see a busy direct old-style winger, could possibly develop into a useful squad player if we're lucky. But 'special'? Not even close. Just doesn't have the technical or physical assets to achieve that.

I'm posting this here as it plays a big part in Sabitzer's future with Bayern Munich (Tier 2):
