Eriksen kit photos have been released. I think Martinez will be officially announced at 4 or 5 and then they'll release training pictures later today

This is all info coming from the same sources as the Barcelona journalists, though, so it's not necessarily new info. From the article, the only new info is that the players have gotten used to playing in an environment where the directors try to force their agenda on both them and the managers. Therefore, all of this speculation won't bother de Jong as he prepares for the upcoming season.
 
Preston signed Troy Parrott on loan too. Doubtful they'll play both in the first eleven so that means they're fighting it out for a spot? Throw in Ben Woodburn from Liverpool as well.

We've pursued plenty of players on the off chance they'd come before so yes. Players don't tend to tell you they're not interested as options and competition are important to every agent.

He's been covering La Liga and Spanish football for many years. He and Mitten both share the same contacts as the reliable Spanish journalists who've already been reporting similar things for the past couple of months.

He wants to see how far he can go in sticking it out with Barcelona before looking to move on. If Barcelona jeopardises his national team prospects, for example, then I can see him wanting to leave. The money also plays a part here, of course.

What amazes me is that having seen our transfer dealings for the last 5 years (at least) that anyone would even question our capacity to be incompetent

His new contract goes until 2024 with the option of an additional year. Looks like the Preston loan spell will determine whether United will continue on with him for the considerable future or sell him if he can't surpass Malacia.

Yeah, based on what we've heard, he can do just ... basically "do a Bale".

That wording is just what Barca want/are saying to him. Not what he HAS TO do.

Barca need reminding that not everyone has to do what they say. They're the football club equivalent of a spoiled 10 year old only child on his birthday.

They're taking the exact same approach here as they did with Ousmane Dembélé. If de Jong doesn't give any indication that he wants to lower his salary (like Dembélé did), then they'll push him out of the squad and prevent him from playing for Barcelona. The moment he accepts a pay cut, however, he'll be brought back into the team and be given regular playing time just like Dembélé was.

Barcelona are hoping that de Jong blinks out of the pressure of not playing and, therefore, missing out on the Netherlands squad.

I want FDJ to hold firm in that instance. Barca deserve feckery of the highest order.
 
I hope if there is truth to this, we pull out of deal asap. At least it will end the saga and we can crack on with our transfer business. Too many red flags for me and I doubt it’s just another tactic to get his money from Barcelona, I just really don’t think he wants to join us. Of course I may be proved wrong in the next 5 weeks and will happily take the flack.

Maybe these leaks are to get more interest from other teams in case he eventually does leave - my money is still on him staying. I just cannot see him here at all though, which I know makes me the anti muppet but it is his choice and if he has options that he views as better, then so be it. Unfortunately we are not a very attractive proposition for the best players at present The only reason I believed he may join was EtH and EtH only.

Hopefully we can get someone like Tielemans if FDJ is 100% a no go, who for the reported price is a good deal. Not FDJ level of course but still a good level above McTominay and Fred. Both him, Eriksen an attacker like Antony and I’d be more confident in us getting 4th than if we signed FDJ alone. A RB would be a bonus.

It's also beyond obvious that yet again we've spent a summer chasing a player that never had any intention of joining us.

For those saying 'why would we pursue the deal if he hadn't said he'd come' - we do it all the time.

If we do give up on signing de Jong, then other clubs will immediately go in for him (Chelsea, PSG, Manchester City). None of them have gotten involved up to now because we've been so far ahead and have been more willing to satisfy Barcelona's demands. The CL clubs wouldn't necessarily offer what we are to Barcelona, but the player himself will make a push for them, so Barcelona will be more likely to accept a lower-value package just to let him go.

There’s a real feeling about this now. It’s not only a football decision, it’s also the city, the mansion he’s just bought, the fact his gf loves it there and is happy. The fact he loves Barcelona and wants to play there. Dream club yada yada. Even with a salary deduction he’s still going to be a multi millionaire and live a very comfortable life so I guess that’s for him to weigh up and make a decision on. It won’t just simply be money.

One thing to consider though, if we give up, other clubs will move in on him. So that’s also a risk on our part.
