Surely we go for Pau Torres now? Ajax are literally laughing at us here

Yeah time to walk away from all their players. Demanding over £50 million for players like Antony and Martinez is a joke. It’s an absolutely massive gamble to expect them to step up directly from that league at that price point.

Even their players from that successful Champions League team in 2019 (Ziyech, De Ligt, De Jong, Dolberg, DvB) have all struggled to varying degrees. I’m not convinced Antony and Martinez are close to the level that FdJ or De Ligt were when leaving Ajax either.

Could this have been a worse window?

- our main target getting played out in public for two months with definate signals he doesn't want to come here. Signings are just as much about effort/motivation as well as talent - a huge gamble now this will pay off even if he does come
- delayed interaction with Ajax over Martinez showing how desperate we are and them now from early reports demanding 10m more
- cannot seem to get a free transfer over the line within 2 weeks
- the lack of transfer activity now signally Ronaldo to throw his toys and want to leave
- even though we made a lot of noises about a reset we've only moved Pereira out of the club

All of this in an environment where we had our worst season in a generation and with a new manager crucially needed everyone in early to fix things in training with the full playing staff.

Lets not forget the embarrassment of being mullered by Brighton 4-0 on the last day of the season.
Jeez, that's a lot of stress to get out in one post.

Of course we want to see signings and get the right players in but if it means we don't get took to the cleaners like we have been on every single transer then maybe a bit of short term pain for long term gain.

Who's made noises about a reset? Fan channel's, Rio ?, Gary Neville, Goldbridge?

Ronaldo want's to go then he can go, the more this drags on the more he damages his reputation as it leans more towards the 25% pay cut than football related.

Cant complete a free transfer in 2 weeks ??? Assuming that is Eriksson, he only made his decision public last week, medicals need to be arranged etc

Brighton, Seriously WTH !?!?

Dealing with Spanish teams is always a nightmare for us, buying or selling their sedition and control of the press is perverse, can you imagine if we got the kind of press support rather than the ABU nonsense, I don't think I could cope

We want us not to overpay and give out big contracts.

We want to get only right players as per the managers system

We are no longer in UCL.

We want to sell players at right price and not very cheap..

We want to give youth a chance..

We wanted all these till May and now starts complaining? Atleast wait till August to start complaining...

I'm feeling super calm about all this.

I'm going to trust this manager to get it right given time. If he can even get 25% more out of the players he already has that will be enough to challenge for top 4 and/or win the Europa league to get CL football back. Then next summer he will be better placed to know exactly which players he needs to push on from there.

I also think there will be at least two more signings (not counting Eriksen) before the window closes and this, if it happens, will only make that top 4 place even more likely IMO.

Tomorrow we will hopefully see at least some glimpses of a better, modern system being played and the evidence that our players have bought into it

Haha wasn’t that the keeper “apparently” coming to us, couldn’t give a monkeys but I guess the reports were bullshit or he chose first team football.

Strangely the point about their best players from the 2019 team struggling is an argument for trusting ETH to get more out of our squad.

If he had those players playing so well then I reckon he could do great things with some of our lads. We do have talent in the squad whatever people want to think.

I'm leaning more towards the bullshit angle to be honest. I doubt he will be getting first team football over David Raya.

Wish people would remember that we don't get daily club briefings. There are plenty of conflicting reports and transfer windows are and have always been a degree of nonsense.

It seems that people tend to pick and choose what information they treat as true and it tends to go along with whatever narrative suits them.

Most of the bickering and arguing is coming from information that third parties have gotten from either a third part or unnamed 'source'. We have no idea what conversations have taken place and no idea how much or what information is put out purely to make a point, push a narrative or play mind games.

We can't control nay of this so all we can do is take it as it comes.

All true and I like to think I follow this mantra - but then again this is a forum so if some people want to get worked up into a mental frenzy then I suppose this is the place to do it.

Just avoid the thread/skip the posts.

Well good deal for Brentford - he is a good keeper

New details from this article (from which a few aggregators posted some info last night):

  • United find Antony overpriced at €80m, which Ajax demands.
  • United are in the market for a backup keeper to make up for Henderson.
    • Heaton can potentially become United's #2 keeper.

I think that's the idea, from Ajax. Overinflate his price to put clubs off unless they pay ridiculous money.

This was established on here ages ago though. Slightly worrying that this just comes out now as I'm guessing we havenn't worked on a fall back option at all. The Martinez signing looks a bit dead at the moment too.

Perhaps this blinkered approach to this transfer window isn't limited to FDJ afterall.

Everyone and their dog knows that our available pool of players are basically those that have played in the Netherlands within the last 5 years, any club who have players that fit that category are rightfully rubbing their hands with glee.

Our strategy may make sense for some on here, but it's an expensive one, and we'll overpay like every other window.

Exactly. I would also add that there is a risk with focusing so much business on players from the Dutch league given the relative weakness of the league and especially if the prices are high (e.g. £50m for martinez)

I hope ten Hag isn't making a mistake by keeping someone who doesn't want to be here.

If he really wants to go, he’ll go. He’s at the arse end of his career, literally all options are available to him including throwing his toys out of the pram and making it awkward for the club or just retiring if he doesn’t want to stay. He’ll be playing for somebody else come the 1st September.

Official: Fulham announce Andreas Pereira. It's interesting that Fulham decided to use MUTV's commentary here for the goal highlights.

Well, he won't, because he's under contract.

The Brazilian de Bruyne, will be greatly missed.

How much should we have paid for Malacia?
