Hopefully our stance on transfers has changed in line with the new beginning in that we stand our ground or walk away from inflated wages/transfer fees/agents demands rather than wasting money and being stuck with overpriced, average players.

If we continue making the same mistakes like the £80m Maguire, £100m Grealish and £97m Lukaku deals we won't get anywhere. I wouldn't pay more than £40m for Phillips.

I guess the negotiations with Tsouameni didn't go so well ? because he's the first target that ETH wants but other clubs want him too

Not only that Phillips isn't worth the money, he's also very injury prone. I don't think we need to go after him TBH

None of these journalists know anything about who ETH would want.

Are there even any good young ones in the Premier League that aren't from immediate rivals who will not sell to us?

Yeah, I wonder who that would be? Ollie Watkins? Ivan Toney? Armando Broja? Surely not Nketiah? Broja is Chelsea property of course, but not necessarily in their plans I suppose.

Not really that you'd say are good enough to be in and around the first XI.

Two tweets and the gloom is back on for me. We can't scout from outside PL?

I mean Ollie and Ivan are 26, I was thinking more along the lines of 23 and under but if you're going to that age I was thinking maybe Timo Werner on the off chance he would be available, maybe on the advice of Rangnick, but who knows... don't fancy any of them choices when you consider there are far better options elsewhere

Good point - I wasn't aware they were that old, actually. Also agree with the assessment (though I think Toney makes for an interesting option for a big team, given the range of his qualities). I guess Broja is the most appealing option among those mentioned. Really don't fancy Werner, given his travails in adapting to the PL and lack of the physicality we are so short of up front.

Maybe DCL or Richarlison ?

But both of them had bad injuries

If they could be considered young (though I mentioned a couple who are older than them, at 25 and 24 respectively - obviously I can't rely on my impressions of the age of PL players without checking :) ). Richarlison would obviously be great, less sure about DCL.

You make that post sound like he has early onset...

No I don't believe that but I do suspect Journos and the Twitterati know there's clicks to be had with any rumour that revolves around Rangnick being surprised/shocked about something at United, as they've been spamming that sort of thing for months now.

No he isn't. He's been injured a lot of this season, but this is the first time he's missed a chunk of games. Having a serious injury doesn't make you injury prone.

He'd have helped us because he moves well for his size and one of him or Fred in the midfield would make us tougher to play against, but I haven't seen much to disagree with the scouts on this one overall.
We already have one of him or Fred in the midfield, and it doesn't seem to help.

He has been spot on many rumors for a couple of years now. The guy is a full time prick, but he knows his stuff.
But since then, we've changed CEO, all our footballing directors, our manager, our assistant manager and both of our head scouts. His sources are probably as far from the truth as they've ever been.

And, of course, EtH isn't going to be revealing anything to anyone while he's in Amsterdam fighting for a title. That's the big missing piece neither Luckhurst nor anybody else is going to have access to.

The Philips stuff is probably just the usual scouting reports, background checks and agent contacts. The same things we do for dozens of players every summer. It's way too early for anything concrete.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve just done a quick Google and educated myself. Shame a few others don’t do the same!
The problem is what he is actually doing seems to be a lot broader than the role he described. Pretty sure barking orders from the bench or being involved in the recruitment of new managers wasn't part of the role he described. He just seems to be doing a bit of everything which is so typically united

Laughable, Depay was a kid and just not ready, like Zaha. Donny has been totally mismanaged.
Depay was never that good. He only shone in farmers league for a reason.

Same with Zaha spending his career at Palace.

As we've just removed our top scouts, who's feeding these links? As there's no one at the club in a position to identify anyone right now.
They’re not being removed till the end of the season.
