Still not quite sure why we didn't sign Trippier, we were after him all summer then couldn't find the money for him, despite having a lot of sellable assets wasting away. Rice would've been incredibly difficult to pull off, probably will be even next year, they want over £100m for him and he's on a ridiculously long contract.
This is not far off the truth, Trippier and Rice would have bolstered us in ways Sancho and Ronaldo have not.
Still would've signed Ronaldo if given the chance, considering Cavani's injury record and Greenwood still looking a few years away. Sancho we could've missed out on considering he's already been relegated to a bench option and we have a plethora of young, talented wingers.
Those 2 additions complete our team and make it so there's no discernable weakness, not having them isn't the reason we're doing so badly though, the way we're setting up is one of the biggest culprits. Teams have figured a very effective way of beating us and we've not adapted to deal with it.
Yeah fair point, Ronaldo is a no-brainer but Sancho is a problem already, we signed a player for the bulk of our transfer budget in an area we were already reasonably strong in instead of addressing the massive issue in midfield and on the right side of our defence.
I guess we still haven't stopped signing players for their Instagram-ability instead of what we actually need.

We know Greenwood isn't a winger he can play there but he's clearly still just a striker playing out wide looking for a shot almost every chance he gets. Martial can play there too to a lesser extent.

We also blocked moves for van de Beek who doesn’t even look like a sub anymore. There’s also players like Martial, Bailly and Henderson that are barely featuring and would likely have suitors.

Diallo, Elanga. You absolutely have to include Greenwood in that list, he’s been our starting RW for 2 years and excelled in that position. We also had James who we sold to make room for Sancho too. That’s also not taking into consideration Pellistri who we signed for £10m.
More to the point we've not actually even played Sancho on the right anyway, he's played on the left for us far more often.

Fair enough Sancho hasn't played much on the right but I reckon that's been because of a perfect storm of adjusting to a new league, Rashfords injury, Ronaldo joining etc.
Only Dalot and Lingard were really being pitched around for sale though. No one wanted to pay money for Dalot bar maybe Dortmund by which time it was too late to get Trippier.
Lingard yeah teams wanted him sure but it was widely reported he wanted to stay for whatever reason.
Plus I reckon we could have afforded Trippier without sales. The club just deemed his price tag too high for 31 year old.
