Eh? James isn't crucial to any aspect of winning, he's bang average. Pellistri, Amad and Hannibal could get his minutes in the easier games.

He is crucial though, if you need a player to do a good defensive job and keep the shape, with the ability to break forward with directness and pace, he is the best we've got. At least until Marcus gets back.

His good defensive work is overrated. He's doing a lot of chasing, but not giving the ball away more than he wins it back. Lingard can offer similar quality while being less wasteful with possession. Lingard is not crucial in nothing for us. So is James

I guess but how often does a club come out and state exactly how much the fee was etc. Seems weird.
Currently British record fee for someone who has been open to move for few seasons now, in COVID time. Not like the club forcing him out against his desire. Their fans are overreacting.

I get what you mean, but Purslow did state that there was a release clause, so disclosing the amount doesn't seem that weird, IMO.

Makes no difference if he stated the fee or not. Could quite easily have said there was a release clause that was met...

How often do clubs publicly come out and confirm transfer fees?

Why does he specify their transfer strategy and the fee? Surely the selling clubs will try to rinse them now that they understand Villa have 100m in the bank?
They already signed his replacements.

Villa have already spent their money I think

Good, City's PR team can’t downplay the fee.
Neither can Villa. Good luck negotiating with teams that know they have just received £100 Million ( up front too I guess with a release clause...)

Seems incredibly stupid and counterproductive unless they are finished for the summer.

You're right, it's not common, but here we are. Add this to one of those rare instances.

This already started with Ings. It's only going to get worse for them.

I think they have probably already spent all or almost all of it. He said that himself Villa spent on three players which will compensate what Grealish gave with their respective attributes

they already signed 3 good players for 90 mil or less, so they won't be rinsed, even though I think Ings is a tad bit expensive, the other 2 cost reasonable fees.

They have already signed the 3 attacking players they want.

They want to ensure the fans that the club was handsomely compensated. There's more to PR than transfer strategy. You often see the selling club disclose the fee (provided it was high) in order to appease their stakeholders. United did with Ronaldo back in the day too.

It is called transparency and the benefits of communication....many many owners could learn from this approach. Kudos to him.

Attacking players yeah. What if they try and buy somebody else. Seems a bit stupid.
Chelsea want 40 million Pounds for Tammy Abraham. If Villa are really keen, then yeah, they have no chance of negotiating that down.
