Somehow I doubt that City would pay so much for Gimenez after they offered 'only' €55+5m for Koulibaly who was their No.1 target. Also looking at number of league games he played in last six seasons: 20-27-17-23-21-21, he never really became some undisputed first choice centre-back for Atleti so would they turn down that offer? Hmmmm.

Is Mendy any good then? I've never heard of him to be honest so he could be one of the greatest keepers on the planet for all I know

Bloody hell, they only want €20M, just pay up and get on with the winger deal.
I think it's fair enough that we're starting to stand our ground in this way. We've been getting rinsed by selling clubs for long enough.

Very good shot stopper. Decent with his feet.

But he's a puncher and a palmer (in saves and crosses) not a catcher. So it'll be interesting to see if he works on that, otherwise he'll be targeted on shots and crosses.

I could see us loaning Loftus-Cheek. He's 24 and he's played in just 107 professional matches. He's had major injury issues, he's been extremely unlucky so far, but for comparison, Rashford is 2 years younger but he has 216 pro matches. He needs playing time to regain the fitness and match sharpness he had in Sarri's season. With stiff competition now, going on loan where he hopefully play every week might be good for him.

There was a time when our non-first team players were valued by mid to lower PL table teams. That's gone now and even championship clubs are not interested given the wage bill so unless we have international buying clubs, these players will see out their contracts. Another masterstroke by Woodward!

Gimenez (25) is younger than Koulibaly (29). Also he is first choice CB now, was 2nd to Godin when he was there. Fantastic CB, can see City offering that much for him. They need an elite CB alongside Laporte if they are going to stop liverpool winning the title.

Yep it drives you nuts. Barcelona clearing out the deadwood by letting them leave on cheap therefore buying club can pay said player higher wages and Barcelona get them off their books. Us? We want the buying club to pay the same sort of fee we paid for the player originally and thats never gonna wash.

if that is true and the summer budget was €40 million then

I can’t even be bothered to be angry anymore. It just goes to show the lack of ambition under these parasites.

Literally every single one of our rivals for top 4 have strengthened. This is going to be a long and disappointing season.

Poor Ole will be the scapegoat when we fail as well.

Did you read the thread on the impacts of covid?

De bruyne never even got a chance at chelsea though, I'm not against giving players a chance but you can't hold onto players for seasons in hope they come good and the best well run clubs know when to sell but we don't, look at liverpool and how they are able to sell their former youth players for 20 plus million and yet here we are with the likes of lingard, smalling, Pereira and jones being hard to shift because we clinged onto them for too long

The point is De Bruyne or Salah wouldn’t have come good if they’d have stayed at Chelsea. They weren’t playing and their careers would have stagnated.

Someone like Dalot may stay fit and kick on in a few years but right now he isn’t good enough for us and isn’t getting in the team ahead of either AWB or TFM or Williams. So we should sell now. Put in a buyback clause if we really want to but don’t just keep him around for no reason.

Williams 65k:wenger:. If that site is correct about the salaries then if Williams doesn't turn into a good player we are stuck with him until his contract expires. Also how is it that Rojo, Jones are paid more than Chris they have played less than half the games he has in played last 5 years.

Williams just signed a new contract with United a month ago hence imo a fair 65k (for a squad player).

The only explanation for Smalling's relatively low salary is he has a shite agent.

Just for context he would be the highest paid player at Brighton if he went there right now. This is why why we can't move on players when we need to.

Time to do what Juventus and Barcelona have done with so of their finished players/deadwood and rip up their contracts and take a hit on those clowns of so-called footballers.

But that would be a footballing decision and not a business one and the board, Glazers and Woodward won't think of it like that

Edward Woodward would liked to offer an extension to protect the value of the asset in the balance sheet

If Jesse wants to leave and get first team football, there’s going to be teams in Italy and mid table that will sign him on a loan. I think he can prove himself without the United pressure in Serie A and we will find a buyer in 2021 like Sanchez
and Smalling.

He can leave for free in 2021 unless you're talking about the January window and then his price will be even lower. He may be better off to wait 3 months, sign a contract with a team that will most likely give him a signing bonus since he's going for free 6 months later.
One thing I wonder is whether he is limiting his choices to England and specifically near the North West given his family situation. Can't see him wanting to move his mom and siblings to another country and it's been widely reported he's been a caregiver while his mom is not well.

He loves the club so much that Raiola is advising to wait and leave on a free.
That's what I expect will eventually happen with Pogba; wouldn't put it past him to pull the same move with Jesse as well.
