Back in the day when the offer for him came, we were reigning champions of the Premier League, and a European mainstay. Oh and no one knew Moyes would be so diabolical.
We had Moyes and an aging squad. We were a lot less likley to win the major titles than treble winners Bayern and he still wanted to join us.
We, as fans, have a tendency to overthink matters

Not a single person at the time didn't have United as title challengers. That's my point.

Now though, we aren't even close as title challengers and are playing in/out with champions league places. Moreover Thiago isn't 24 anymore but 29. He's at the age where he'd likely favour being the missing puzzle in an almost finished article, than join another project.

I think the only way we get him is if Liverpool don't pay up and/or we offer silly wages and sell it as his last big pay day.

I'd argue that we are that. Especially if we can get Sancho over the line as well.

Don't discount the appeal of being part of a "legendary comeback" at a club like ours. Especially if he did want to join us in the past and felt kinda snubbed it didn't happen.

This forum never ceases to amaze me

We’ve been crying out for some good news for days now, there’s been meltdowns upon meltdowns

We’ve had some good news about VDB, Thiago and Grealish in the space of 3 days & what does the CAF do?

Downplay it. :lol::lol::lol:

Are we all glutton for punishment?

On paper perhaps we can be challengers but not in practise. Heck even on paper, Chelsea are on par and City /Liverpool are still better. I don't see how we are title challengers this season even on paper (yet).

Whereas back at Thiago first link with us, we were reigning champions of England and still perceived as a behemoth team on the pitch. Right now we are a work in progress. I'm unsure Thiago wants that at 29 over Liverpool and Klopp, if he's faced with the choice.

It's quite clear Liverpool is his first choice.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

We have been down this road before and many of us just don't want to be let down again by Woodward

A lot of people didnt have us as challengers. Hell a lot of people constantly had City massive favourites to win the league even under Sir Alex. Point is, he would not have wanted to choose that Utd over literal dominant CL winners Bayern if his mindset was what youre saying it is..it seems youre putting your own insecuities onto Thiago to be honest.

Why are we seriously not after Sarr or Adama Traore? Why are we still looking at central midfielders? This is gonna be Mourinho's last season isn't it? Get into the Champions league then refuse to strengthen or strengthen the wrong areas. We just never learn.

Because Sancho is coming.

We’ve finally signed him then? I take it your ITK as I’ve not seen it hit the mainstream media yet.

I'm not an ITK and will never claim to be, unless I suddenly do become.

But I have faith.
And it's how I interpret the movements and news so far.

I really don't get the Sancho obsession. If our stance is Sancho or no one then we'd be making a grave mistake. Sancho is being ridiculously overhyped. He's good but people talk about him like he's Messi. Kagawa and Mkhitaryan were also fantastic in the Bundesliga when we got them. Is Sancho that different because he's English?

What do you expect when that clown Woodward is still running things? Until we replace him or get a proper DOF in place we’ll never truly operate competently and efficiently in the transfer market.

He’s not just performing in the Bundesliga is he though. Also for England and in the UCL. Add to the fact his age compared to Mkhi and Kagawa.

Really? Which game for England was he man of the match? Kosovo?
Again, he's good but he wont be our saviour. We need to strengthen all over the pitch.

Eh? City being title favorites doesn't mean we weren't expected to at least challenge them. The concept of us falling out of the top 4 was crazy, and that's what happened.
I'm not insecure at all - it's well reported Liverpool is his first choice, which makes obvious sense for a 29 year old looking to compete for a top club challenging for trophies in the twilight of his career.

I agree with some of you guys. Don’t see we aren’t after Sarr I’d Watford. He could be a good alternative as RW with or without Sancho.

If we manage to sign sancho then we would play Sancho and Sarr as RW and Martial and greenwood as CF (as ighalo would leave in half a year).

If we do not sign Sancho then we use Greenwood and Sarr as RW

We definitely need some improvements in the attacking positions. It might also put us in a better negotiation position with Dortmund if we can show them that we are not that desperate with sancho if we already have signed a player such as Sarr.

Why would we sign Sarr and Sancho? We don’t have the money. Elsewhere needs strengthening also. Watford want £40mil for Sarr it’s hardly cheap.

I find it super strange how both Chelsea and United will have huge squads if all these signings come off and yet neither club has sold any of our deadwood yet. Season is right around the corner!

We've sold Sanchez to be fair. And Gomes has left.
