I want to clarify previous hyperbolic comments by saying of course I’ll still support the club through thick and thin, but it’s hard to go into another year knowing Woodward has successfully subverted expectation so hard that we suddenly have shifted our goals to what Arsenal have been aiming for the last decade and a half.

After watching our midfield put in mid table performances week in and week out, the only changes we’ve made to it all summer is to let Herrera leave on a free. If we make it past the deadline without at least one midfield addition, that should be grounds for immediate contract termination on Woodward’s behalf.

We’ve got a potential title challenging back line on paper, but our midfield and attack aren’t good enough to challenge for top 4, let alone anywhere near good enough to challenge for the title.

To claim none of them have contacts who know things is utter nonsense. I know for a fact one of those named by this poster has genuine contacts all over football that he's built relationships with over many years. Whatever he reports from those contacts he does in good faith and having checked the accuracy with other sources (as I'm sure many journalists do).

Does this mean that no journalists make up stories to get clicks or sell papers? Of course not. I'm sure plenty do. But to claim they all do it all the time is a sweeping generalisation, and is disrespectful to those who do their jobs honestly.

Sports journalist is practically another way of saying professional liar, to be fair.

I'm sure there's one or two better ones, but the vast majority are liars plain and simple.

Nobody is shedding a tear for any sports journalist either.

What he is instead alluding to is that journalists do not wait for their contacts to give them tips and only publish when possible, they have a quota to reach and I have no doubt all journalists make some of their stories up, with their sources being common sense or informed opinions.

I disagree. He said that when any of those journalists say United are interested in player x he guarantees they are making it up. It was expressed as an absolute. I'm not taking issue with most of what the poster said, but specifically naming people and saying you guarantee they are making it up is out of line.

I guess it depends if you know anyone in that profession and are aware of how hard they work and how much integrity they pride themselves on having.

As I said, there's probably a few out there, but there are far more professional bullshitters who have soured any notion of it being a respectable industry.

Disagree on that. They've got a seriously pissed off manager, asking to be called a coach cos he doesn't get any new players. I would say that there is definitely a need for them to get some deals over the line in the next 24 hours, otherwise it could get pretty unpleasant.

It surely depends which country they are from. I've never seen any made up transfer stories or general stuff being told by Belgian sport journalists. But we don't have a "tradition" of gossip and rumors in newspapers either. Twitter is a much bigger source of news in England than it is over here too.

We are good enough to challenge for top 4 some people are so over the top. Is arsenals back 4 as good as ours? Is Chelsea’s? Also would rather have Pogba and Mctominay than Torreira and Xhaka in midfield would also rather have Rashford, Martial and James than Pulisic, Abraham and Pedro. There’s s positives and negatives in all 3 teams doesn’t mean we can’t challenge.

You talk like we’re absolutely miles behind Arsenal and Chelsea, we finished 4 points behind Arsenal last year and 6 behind Chelsea hardly a huge gap to close is it.

Except we're not the position Pool were last season. We're in the position Pool were in summer of 2016 after half a year with Klopp (same as we are now). They had a much worse defense then and an attack that was very reliant on Coutinho to pull something out of a hat. Its time for a little patience, something I fear we won't afford our manager because we have delusions of grandeur about where we should be instead of knowing where we are and how to get out of it.

We are miles behind where we could and should be given the money supposedly at our disposal.

Where that leaves us relative to other teams remains to be seen but letting our most effective midfielder from last season go (and not bringing in a replacement) is definitely going to hurt us.

Darmian is on relatively low wages but no one wants to pay a fee for him because he isn't very good.

Theirs lots of factors isn’t there. Are Sarri and Emery better coaches than Mourinho?

Oles a better coach than frank and would argue we have a better team than Chelsea’s after they lost Sarri and Hazard
