You don't agree a world record deal for a player and then allow him to train with his former club - imagine if he'd done his ACL!

If any deal had been agreed, Maguire would have been pulled from training (probably for some nonsense reason like an 'upset stomach', which was probably what led Di Marzio to publish a story yesterday saying a deal was done - he was guessing based on Maguire's absence and hoping to nail an "exclusive" and restore some of his reputation).

Incidentally, I see Pogba missed training today because of a mysterious "back problem"... :nervous:
Yeah he's a goner alright.

Well like I said we could debate this all night long, there's no way to know conclusively who's right. Let's wait and watch.

you can do a transfer in 24 hours. 3 transfers in a week is plenty of time, unless you send in the three amigos into the La Liga headquarters and they feck up everything in the last hours.

In a side that averages 70% possession every week, even against other top sides.

Our midfielders have to soak up far more pressure, defensively.

Well the whole point if we strengthen attacking wise we will spend far less time defending and more attacking. If you can replace lingard and mata with Fernandes and Dybala Im sure we will have more possession and spend more time attacking.

I haven't seen any sign of that (us looking to dominate the ball) so far. I expect us largely to continue as we have done under Solskjaer - predominantly a counterattacking side that looks to break quickly in numbers. AWB, James, Maguire (and Fernandes) are much more suited to this kind of football (rather than City's possession-based approach).

Ole is very explicitly a possession based coach. However he's not as anal about it as Pep.

Pogba getting the Lukaku treatment I think.

I would say Ole has always wanted us to keep possession the problem is we don't have great players to do that.

There is always someone who will piss on your chips.
You've misread it. He's saying it as a good thing, and that's probably why Di Marzio knows the deal is close.

We assume Sampdoria have been informed.

Is there a list of stuff Di Marzio has gotten wrong anywhere? Remember reading something on here once but just can't find it now.

I don't think he is. Our buildup play has not altered at all under Solskjaer and he has spoken disparagingly of this style of football (patient buildup play at the back) as being un-United.

We have played on the break in every big game under him so far, happy to let the opposition dominate the ball and then getting it forward quickly when we win it back. I'd be shocked if we suddenly became a patient possession-based side overnight.

There's nothing wrong with playing this way of course - some of the best football we played under Fergie was played while employing exactly this strategy.

I'm really not sure how to even start a conversation if thats your observation. To me our build up play has moved significantly towards a more patient build up, positional play than when Mourinho was around. If you don't see it I'd say its too early to consistently manage it and our defenders often end up hoofing it up the field and we'll see over the season if what I've been seeing is a real tactical shift.

Things are picking up.

Starting to look like
Lukaku going - Inter/Juve. If he goes to Inter we get cash but need a replacement/ Juve we may get Dybala
Fernandes - Coming to Utd
Pogba - Missed training/not playing tonight - likely going to Real
Maguire - THink this will go over the line

And do you think Dunk is coming for free instead? :)

what does Dunk have to do with taking on our garbage. I would rather pay whatever Brighton want for Dunk rather than have Phil Jones and Marcus Rojo suit up for even 1 game if I was running Leicester. If Leicester don't rate any of the CBs we have why would they settle for less money and a swap of players. Their goal should be to continue pricing out the move so they can keep Maguire, or sell him at such a high fee they can use the money for a replacement and then some.

So this summer still has a potential to be a great one.
Of course it has a potential to be a horrible one too.

Not really, even if we didnt sign anybody else we've found an absolute gem of a right back, a winger who looks like a winger and 3 massive prospects from our youth set up that look ready for some first team opportunities. That and McTominay is genuinely starting to look like the real deal as a United midfielder. I wouldn't say no to some further additions, but I'm not worried about the potential exits. Its all good with little downside. If Pogba goes its because he wanted to, losing a player like that is not going to be a bad thing for team cohesion, even if we do lose some creativity in the middle for now.
