HEY EVERYONE I IGNORE SOMEONE LOOK AT ME
What does this "..., sky sport news understands" exactly mean?
I'm not a native speaker and I understand what they want to say with it, but according to my english lessons "understands" stands for "to know something because someone explained it or you learned/heard it before".
Why should this phrase be used in a transfer tweet? Especially about rumors? Was there a guy their and told them all this and after this guy left, this tweet was everything they understood from him?
It's an ancient tradition from the BBC. Basically when the BBC writes "the BBC understands..." it means it is almost certainly true. They've built a rock solid reputation on that phrase and is basically the next best thing to official confirmation.
When sky writes "sky sports understands" it probably means someone called in an anonymous tip and they are reporting it because that's still more solid than any other sources they have.
