Saturday Night Spies
The Mirror are quoting the Sun as their source for Maguire, so unsure if it's true yet.
Closer to 4-5 days (official announcement was 10 days total but there was a delay for whatever reason), and got the price wrong (said £55m when it turned out to be £45+5m).Wasn’t Castles a couple of days before everyone else on the AWB deal being agreed too?
@utdreport: The latest #mufc offer made for Harry Maguire (£60m + £20m), has been agreed with Leicester #mulive [@transferpodcast, @garbosj, @DuncanCastles]
Pass and move football is more of a team dynamic rather than just having singular striker do all the movement. As seen with Lukaku and Belgium in the world cup you can be a stagnant forward and still adopt a system which is fluid, same as RVN under Sir Alex.
Im not really interested in having Icardi here but there's no one in the market who will offer us a better solution in his position if Lukaku leaves. If you take away Pogba's contribution, Rashford doesn't score enough goals, we don't have a Mane or Salah on the flanks to cater for his weaknesses. If we go into next season with Marcus as the only recognised striker we will miserably struggle to win games.

£80m for slabhead. Ed's been taken to the fecking cleaners.

Oh that's a bargain.It’s £60m upfront with a potential £20m in bonus add-ons.
Oh that's a bargain.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. He'd have been slaughtered if he pulled the plug on the deal after Leicester rejected €70 million, similar to when we were after Peresic.£80m for slabhead. Ed's been taken to the fecking cleaners.
We're paying £30m more.Nothing in football is a bargain, so that’s plain silly.
John Stones cost £50m 3 years ago and Kyle Walker cost £50m 2 years ago, all before this insane inflation kicked in.
Keep harping on about Woodward though.
Always perplexed me that people give a shit how much we spend when improving our team. Same feckers who complain that we don’t spend enough if we don’t sign anyone. We’re signing a player in a crucial position that will improve our first team, who is PL proven, it’s not going to be cheap.

Of which £20 million is in add-ons. The market has gone even crazier since the deals like the Stones one, who has at times been a calamity for both City and England yet is still a regular starter. We're paying £30m more.
The problem is not the money spend, it’s that huge sums of money is being spend in fecking average players. That is what we have been doing for some time now. Fred for 52 million, Fellaini for 27 million, Lukaku for 90 mill and so on. Will Maguire improve us enough to justify his 80 mill price tag? I don’t think so. The result of this purchase is If he fails and flips, no CB for another 3/4 years because we have already spend so much on CBs.Always perplexed me that people give a shit how much we spend when improving our team. I fully agree that there is no WC CB available but we had three windows to look for a CB. We Ghare been trying to buy a CB since Last summer. And after searching for over one year, Maguire for 80 million is the best we could do?really? Are there no better CBs in any other leagues? Even my 10 year old nephew could have suggested Maguire.Who is realistically available out there right now who isn’t ludicrously expensive?
I follow brighton a lot so I've seen a lot of dunk. Considered a hero down at the amex but 45m is insane money.

Would there have been this uproar if we’d spent £135m on Koulibaly? I think there is a huge element of under valuing Maguire because he’s English and plays for Leicester

Ask what we're paying our scouts for, if the best option they could find is Harry Maguire for a record fee. What would you have done as an alternative?
You honestly have no idea how talks went. From what we’ve heard is we offered 70, but they wanted 80 outright. We don’t know but perhaps Woodward managed to negotiate 60 upfront down from 70 upfront or even 80 in total. So, once again we spend weeks in talks, only to pay what was originally asked in the first place.
Who is realistically available out there right now who isn’t ludicrously expensive?
I reckon Alderweireld doesn’t fit the profile of player Ole is after (rightly or wrongly). He seems to be focusing on younger players with more to prove as opposed to experienced players.Alderweireld for £25m. If he’s happy to go Roma I’m sure he would be prepared to come to us. Proven in the league, would sort out CB for a couple of seasons. I can’t see the logic of paying effectively £80m for a player that isn’t as good. Leicester leak goals like a sieve, he lacks pace as well. The only thing he does has is he can come out with the ball. I don’t think it’s a terrible signing but at £80m I would expect Champions league proven players.
