Van Dijk was related for other thing. Regarding this topic i will repeat; release clause doesn't mean that you can speak with the player without permission. But you believe what you want

Just back it up then, document it. The entire point here is that players can leave without the consent of the club, so why on earth do you think they need consent in order to talk to a club over a potential move ?

Footballers in Spain have the same rights as all other employees by royal decree, essentially meaning that they can sod off at any time they want without consent from their club, by forking out the cash for the remaining time of their contract (wages). This is why they have release clauses put into their contracts, to ensure a fixed fee if the player wants to sod off. No consent whatsoever is needed from their current club, the player is always available. Tapping players up is a problem related to contracts where the club is under no obligation to sell the player at a fixed fee, where they actually need permission to sign the player.

If anyone struggles to understand the concept, just look at the Neymar to PSG deal. Barcelona tried everything they could in order to block it.

Got it so essentially tapping up rules don't apply when a player has a release clause. In that case I don't see how Atletico can have any case Barca well within their rights to activate when the clause is lower

That's the way i understand it, and i haven't found anything to suggest my understanding is incorrect. If the club could deny permission to talk to a player over a potential move when the contract allows the player to feck off without consent of the club, then what's the point with the clause in the first place. "Aye, we're forced to sell you if you fork out the cash, but you can't do that since you can't talk to anyone else"

Theres no way players with release clauses can talk to who they want, when they want.

If that was the case, clubs would unsettle players to the point were it would cause major issues.
Thats like Barca going to Griezmann and saying look, we want you, we aren't willing to pay the release clause though, so kick up as much of a fuss as possible so we can get you cheaper

It allows the player to 'feck off without consent' when such club pays the 118m or whatever, up front, with no installments etc
The clause is a legal requirement in La Liga for every player.
More players should enforce having buyout clauses in my opinion.

I don't think a club can deny, but I did think that a club must be notified that you were talking to their player.

However maybe this isn’t the case in Spain or players with release clauses. Not sure

I think Pogba is due back today, maybe everyone's waiting to find out how his and Ole's meeting goes.
He wasn't at training and his last social media post was of him in New York a few hours ago. It has either been agreed he'll fly out directly to Australia to join up with the squad, or he's gone on strike.

Nice, I guess. Secures us a respectable fee should he go next summer.

It hasn't quite worked out after that okay loan spell at Valencia; he started pre-season and the actual season full of beans but one bad [collective] game and he was first on the firing line for Mourinho. Hasn't really kicked back on since.

Let's see how he does this year - he's far down the pecking order, but we're hardly stacked in midfield. Now or never type thing.

If he was on strike you'd think there would be a fair bit about it in the media, it's definitely odd he hasn't joined up with the rest of the squad yet though.

That would my guess as well. Just hope he's not on dumb wages otherwise we might find it difficult to sell him.

Last time i checked it's not a legal requirement, but most players have it as a result of spanish employment laws. If the club could block the player from having talks with potential clubs, it would render the clause a bit pointless.

I hope we renewed this so we get more for him when selling him on. Not good enough at all for the team.
Not gonna happen. We extended his contract so he could get his 10 games in EL. Clubs who know what they are doing when it comes to selling average players like Chelsea would have probably sold him to Valencia after his successful loan spell, with a buy back clause of course. But we are not that.

Absolutely delighted with Andreas Pereira signing a new contract. Mentioned this on his personal thread before the guy was our best player in pre season last year and was cruelly dumped by Jose into the reservers. I remember when we played Leicster in the first game of the season Jose described him as phenomenal.

Then the very next game he dragged him off at half time when the whole team was playing poor and we didnt see him again for 6 months until we got battered in Valencia I believe.

This guy has ALL the tools needed to develop here into a fantastic player for us. Just hope Ole can put his arm around the lad and get his confidence up.

I know we all want lots of signings but keeping some players like him the squad is perfect for us.

Yes, but presumably the clause should be paid or at least the club notified that you will pay it before contact with the player is initialised.

All Spanish players have a release clause.... Maybe not youth player, but full time contracts.
I still don't understand your logic... Whats the difference between the scenarios?

A. Barcelona want to buy Griezmann who has a buyout clause of 400m.
Barca are free to speak to Griezmann (according to you) and agree upon contract terms.
Barca then proceed to offer Atletico 100m, which they reject.

B. Barca want to buy Griezmann who has no buyout clause.
Barca offer 100m to Atletico who reject the offer.
Barca don't speak to Griezmann.

A buyout clause is only useful if it's actually activated.
(This probably needs its own thread rather than being here)

There were murmurings a few days ago, I dunno. Might have been decided that there was no point in him flying thousands of miles from New York to Manchester, only for him to fly thousands of miles to Australia a few days later.

Nice to see Pereira has an account here. I wonder how many other players post on this particular forum.

Pereria not bad but I remember him giving away possession horrendously in a game last season costing us a goal which was a bit gash. But then he's better than Fred I suppose...

How much dross has Solskjaer stood next to handing new contracts ? End of last season he informs us some players will not be here next season. Yet all of the worst performers are being granted extensions. Nothing but a yes man in charge.

Cannot keep on blaming the managers. Same thing happened under van gaal, then under Jose too and now under OLE. Surely all managers won't say hey I want Jones and Rojo, or hey please do not sell Darmian. It has gone beyond manager now and Woodward is the guy who needs to take the blame now. He has not been able to do a complete clear out like what City did for Pep in 2017. Infact Woodward is just doing opposite of it and just keeping these options and avoiding to sign new players.
