Yeah this is what I think too. He signed for a club for £300k or something, literally a couple of months before we bought him for £7 million. Dodgy as feck.

Who the hell would we even have done a favour for other than Bebe himself?

The only decent player we signed was van Persie in 2012 and that was 3 (?) years later.

This is merely speculation, but the rumours at the time were that it was a payment to a certain agent disguised as a transfer fee to get first refusal on future clients. As I said, this is merely speculation mate.

The agent had 30% of the player's rights.
The club, which has no affiliation with the agent, got 70%. It would be a very inefficient way of giving an agent money.
You can give an agent a fee or a % of a players future transfer value .. why do it by signing a random player?

That theory never made sense.

Still no agreement reached between Crystal Palace and Manchester United after further talks over Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Negotiations will continue, I'd imagine, but fee that would be guaranteed to #cpfc hasn't risen to a level they would consider acceptable as yet.

On Wan-Bissaka, fluid situation and can change quickly but was told earlier deal not really close.

If we're lucky it might get done by preseason...

Harry Redknapp twice had Spurs in the top four before Pochettino took over. This fallacy that he took over a mid table team is ridiculous.

In the 5 seasons before he took over, they finished top 5 in all but one of them, and even that was 6th.

Not going to derail this thread, but it is obvious that Spurs before Pochettino was never regarded as a top team. Even Arsenal fan mocked their ambition. Pochettino changed their mentality of a mid table club to a club that could actually challenge for the title

I am thinking about preparing a possible post about maybe saying i am not renewing my membership. Enough is enough. How we have fallen...

Agree this discussion isn't for here, and agree that Pochettino has stepped them up. But he hasn't taken a mid table team to title challenges as you say.

He's took a team that was knocking on the door of consistent top 4 finishes, to a team that is actually starting to sustain it. They still aren't challenging for the title, and aren't likely to be any time soon

This window is going exactly as I expected just like the league did. I expect a similar season coming up also. Just a steaming shit show all around to be fair. My faith in anyone at the club actually knowing what they are doing is pretty non existent.

I actually look forward to August 8th, at least then I only need to be annoyed by the team.

Man United only have £100m for transfers https://t.co/YboE9Om6NY

£100m + Pogba, Lukaku, Sanchez, DeGea, Matic, Bailly, Rojo, Darmian....well that £450m

Pogba - NDOmbele
Lukaku - Greenwood
Sanchez - James
DeGea - Donarumma
Matic - Ascacibar
Bailly/Rojo - Upamecano
Darmian - Bissaka

Still leaves £200m for 2/3 big signings Romagnoli, Pepe and Barella please

That sort of business will take us about 6-8 years to conclude.

I wouldn't buy this news that he only has 100m. I personally reckon its a brief signal so we don't get fleeced.

If it was reported after we were ready to splash 300m regardless we'd probably get charged silly premiums as we approach agents and whatnot.

It astonishes me that fans still feel that Glazers will spend hundreds of millions every summer when the truth is staring them right in the face.

I doubt if we have any more than a 50 million net spend budget. That's around the average spend each and every year since Glazers took over.

It’s a risky strategy though. If the board/Ed are briefing that we only have £100 million to spend to try and get better deals and we then don’t manage to conclude the transfers we need, the Glazers and Ed are going to get the full force of a pissed off fan base.

Why on earth would they ever say they have a certain amount to spend ?

Seriously the amount of people who believe what is clearly BS is amazing .

It's up there with the people believing the idiots on Reddit are ITKs

I mean it'll never happen, but wouldn't that be nice.

I’m not saying I believe it. I was saying that it’s a risky strategy by the club if it’s true.

What truth is that? We've generally spent as much as anyone bar City. Last season was the only one where we didn't.

Heavy price tag that. If there is no competition and he is adamant on a move - this could potentially drive the price down.

Seems a reasonable price in todays market for a phenomenal prospect. Can score from all kinds of positions, can score from free kicks, cool as you like on pens. His speed and ability to pick a pass is very good. Yes might be weaker league, but i don't see anything to suggest he can't comfortably step up. Would instantly become our best midfielder and arguably best player.
