Terrible deal considering we paid 50 million for Fred.

Not a terrible deal IF swap takes place and Paredes settles in quicker than Fred and proves to a solution to our midfield crisis that has been around since forever. We cut our losses and get a better (who suits our team better) player.

Fred’s a bit too inconsistent for me - and that’s just in one game for me. His technique in passing and touches within a single game is too inconsistent. That said, I’ve neither watched Paredes live nor have I bothered with watching his YouTube highlights reel.

However that’s a big and capitalised if.

None of us know anything, including the fecking journalists, and all we’re doing is speculation.

I don’t even understand why we’re being linked with that Diop guy from West Ham. If the rumours that we are looking to bring in an experienced CB this window, then why the heck are we being linked to him. If we are looking for CBs with potential, we have that option in Tuanzabe. Moreover there are heaps more young, up and coming central defenders who can be had for less money!

We seem to be targeting and buying well for the youth teams, I don’t get why the same isn’t happening for the first team.

You have never seen Paredes play but think swapping him for Fred who we just signed for 50 million is a good idea?....

Why not? I’ve seen Fred play. If Paredes takes less time to settle in, is more consistent and proves to be a better solution than Fred has been, of course it will be a good decision.

We are not a charity. I appreciate and envy the ruthlessness City employs when it comes to players who are deemed past it/inadequate/etc. E.g. Vincent Kompany.

But I’ve said also that we know nothing. We’ve seen so many players whom in theory should have worked out, but did not, and vice versa. In general football, not only at United.

Honestly, with our transfer strategy since the Glazers/Woodward took over, I’ve learnt to be numb to their numbskullity.

What do you mean why not? Is this some sort of wind up

This is the twitter thread anyway, I'll stop derailing it.

£100m + Pogba, Lukaku, Sanchez, DeGea, Matic, Bailly, Rojo, Darmian....well that £450m

Pogba - NDOmbele
Lukaku - Greenwood
Sanchez - James
DeGea - Donarumma
Matic - Ascacibar
Bailly/Rojo - Upamecano
Darmian - Bissaka

Still leaves £200m for 2/3 big signings Romagnoli, Pepe and Barella please
I don't think I could even achieve this in Football Manager

Very quiet morning on the twitter thread if all we have to discuss is a completely mythical swap deal involving Fred and Paredes. Is the transfer window actually open or what?

Away you and lay down for a while, mate.

I shall return to the basement, laddies.

Apologies for the derailment. Been trying to quit smoking and wanking. Our transfer activity has helped with the wanking but not the smoking.

Edit *removed: it was an old joke and not a great one in hindsight

Wouldn't want to play poker with Ed considering how fecking slowly he seems to put "cards on the table".

Cards on the table is a new one. Perhaps they're reading the thread about the preparing a bid comments. How about Ed priming the pumps for the next Bruno tweet?

I don't even think we are in for Bruno. The Portuguese press seem hell bent on pimping him out though.

Unless someone coughs up enough money for Pogba we won't even be in the market for an AM.

The way I see it is we need at least 5 players to start our rebuild. 6 if Pogba were to go. We have 6/7 weeks to do this. If it doesn't happen we can forget about any chance of top 4 next season.
Losing Herrera, Pogba, De Gea, and Lukaku, will be a big loss to us. Along with having to improve our backline and replace our entire midfield this is a huge ask before the new season starts.

Assuming AWB is going to happen, that leaves 3 more players. Ideally it would be CM, CB and RW. Though Lukaku leaving would create a need for a striker but I can see us trusting Rashford and Martial in that area, with Greenwood coming in every so often. Build that base and hopefully we can get top 4 and attract a top striker if Rashford isn't up to it.

"About to put cards on the table"
"Edging closer"
"Closing in"
"About to advance"
"Preparing to put in an offer"

I wonder how many different ways journalists can say the same thing about being close to a signing before we actually make one.

Bollocks!

Is it though? Why would any level headed young player want to join us right now especially those who are already established Internationals? We hardly shout 'you'll develop here' do we what with our ever moving carousel of managers and the seriously questionable individuals on the playing staff.

In Sancho's case staying at Dortmund is 100% the best thing for his career and in Rice's case like I said it's hard to make an argument as to why he should stop his development at West Ham in favour of moving here

I'm actually surprised AWB seems so interested in coming, Daniel James I get because he's playing in the Championship

You definitely could, it's not that hard to get De Gea to sign a new contract in the game or sell him, Pogba is a pain the arse most of the time, so it's better to sell him anyway. Lukaku will ironically complain you're trying to force him out if you attempt to sell him in the first window. Getting rid of Sanchez is fairly realistic in that no-one will pay his damn wages.

None of those signings are particular out of this world, you could do it easy enough.
