Paul Pogba is one reason why our midfield dosn´t work well as he is inept at tracking runners + slow to react + need time on the ball to pick a pass ( most of the time ) and easy to steal the ball from when put under pressure. He brings individual flashy quality ( too rare to build the team around ) but weakens the team overall quality in a league such as the PL. He is also prone to sulking and giving up when it gets tough on the pitch.

Selling him to help rebuild our midfield entirely from scratch would be the wise decision going forward. We need a strong midfield that is without major weaknesses if we are going to be succesful as the midfield is the heart of the team in both defensive and offensive parts of the game.

Totally agree. It a disgrace that so many on here are wetting their pants at the thoughts of Pogba leaving.
Time to move on and time for a few to grow up.

Without Pogba (assuming we don't sign 2 or 3 very good midfielders) it's not that unlikely. We'd finish below Wolves, Leicester for starters.
Yeah well it depends on how we replace him. If we are able to find a proper balance in midfield, then we won't struggle massively. But if our plan is to sell Pogba for 150 and spend all that on AWB and Maguire, then yeah hello top 10 race.

I don't want him to leave but if you were that good playing in a team that shite with such a short career what would you do?

I don’t care if Pogba leaves, not one bit. However, him talking about a «new challenge» is a bit daft when the biggest challenge would be to try to revive United.

Why are people saying it’s ok to sell Pogba? Even if we get £150m for him, that will be gone on Maguire and Wan Bissaka. Gone are the days where £150m could get you 3/4 good players.

We would be losing out best player in the process, our most marketable player, and it would send out a sign that we can’t keep our top players. Why would other top players want to join when they see Pogba, De Gea and Lukaku leaving?

I don’t really look at the money we would get from a Pogba sale as going towards AWB and Maguire/De Ligt/Diop/whatever CB we go for. Think there is already money earmarked for 2 defenders and a midfielder regardless of selling Pogba. Pogba money would see us go for a replacement that Ole likes, same goes for Lukaku. Hope that it the case.

Couldn't care less about him leaving. Turns up when he feels like it. let us down in most of the big moments.

People saying we would finish outside of the top 10 if he leaves are overeacting. Like always. Some stats for the season when we finished 2 :

We averaged 2.12 points per game when he was in the team (25) and 2.15 when he wasn't (13) ...

Why on earth would that be the plan. We've been saying for weeks we don't want to sell him, do you think if he made comments today that he wanted to stay, we'd suddenly decide we don't want Maguire and AWB?

We wouldn't. We'll outspend them and finish higher - unless Ole is incompetent.

Outspend them on what? Our ability to spend well under Woodward is horrific. Take away Pogba and Herrera and Leicesters' midfield (Maddison, Tielmans, Ndidi) is miles above ours. Maguire is probably better than any of our CBs bar maybe Lindelof. Peirera and Chilwell better than Young and Shaw. Vardy is a much better goalscorer than Rashford.

This assumption that we can buy our way out of trouble is nonsense. We're struggling to get deals over the line for Championship players ffs.

0.03 extra points

In my opinion, the Torriera situation is personal, if the player hasn't settled into life in England it's wrong to keep him against his will.

If he was doing a Pogba I'd expect them to stand their ground but I'd let him leave given he's made it clear he hasn't settled into the living in the U.K.

Maguire and AWB would come out of our transfer budget
€150m from Pogba could buy 2 €75m midfielders and maybe Rabiot if we’re lucky
Lukaku will generate enough to reinvest in a top forward

You think we are going to finish outside top 10? Like 12th or 13th? Would take some effort if you ask me

it's hyperbole of course, but I highly doubt we have quality players lined up that we just can't afford unless Pogba leaves and I certainly doubt we can replace the goals and assists he provided from midfield. Also losing your best player after finishing 6th and hiring a completely unproven manager based on a decent start is hardly gonna excite potential targets.

We should really avoid a saga imo. Get something like 130+30 from real and quickly reinvest. The worrying part about all this is that we may be going into the new season with an entirely new center 3. Question is who will it be.

Just compare the outrage when two inconsistent players in Martial and Rashford are linked with moves away to our best player.

I know it’s a joke right? I find it amazing how much blame he gets for our performances yet the likes of Martial gets no abuse even though he hasn’t turned up for a game since his mega new contract.

Reinvest in who though? We already have the cash (although more would help of course), the issue is finding quality players who want to join us and who are available this summer and we seem to be struggling in that regard.

If we want 130+30 for him then it'll absolutely be a saga.

I reckon they'll cough up 125 max tbh. And if he really pushes to leave then we have a serious dilemma because he's worth a fair bit more than that.

I'd actually see Pogba leaving as an exciting opportunity to get extra funds we can invest throughout the side, but for obvious reasons I have no faith in Ed and Co. to do that adequately.

We are fecked. We are potentially losing our 2 best players and we have brought in 1 youngster so far.

Honestly, we didn't get overran as much. Even during the Morgan / Bastian days

More tactical though. We just kept the ball. When we actually lost the ball we got overran a lot

We should snap someone's hand off for £150 million and quickly invest the cash in Tielemans and a top top deep-lying player. Longstaff, Rakitic or Saul Niguez might be available. I wouldn't say no to Idrissa Gueye.

Tanguy, Kai Havertz, Ruben Neves are all unobtainable it seems.

For this kind of money any normal person would perfectly settle in Antarctica

You're spot on, but you're going to be crucified for saying this.

Give it half a season without Pogba and everyone will have forgotten about him.

It is going to be fascinating to see how he does in Madrid though.

By challenge, he means a new career goal. Like winning the league/CL as opposed to scrapping for 4th in a dysfunctional team.

Yeap,we've been pretty wasteful with money in the transfer market lately, more bad buys than good.

City bought their way to success. Every club tends to do that. We obviously won't reach top with mere big spending. But regardless we'll do better than the chronic panickers would have you believe. Fully expect us to do better than the fearsome Wolves and Leicester next season as we do nearly every season. We did far better than both despite Mourinho stinking up the place last season.

If we lose a big player, we'll add quality. We need much more to succeed but not to better Everton and Wolves (unless they start City-ing up).

What championship player are you referring to? We can sign the likes of Pogba and Zlatan. Can Everton? The hysterical whining here is what is nonsensical

I think United needs to view this as a rebuild, and if you do that, you can't burden yourself with players who don't want to be there, or spend time chasing stars who don't want to be part of a project like that.

Top 4 should be the goal for next year, and United are not that far away, given how close they were this year, and how unlikely it seems that Arsenal and Chelsea will strengthen a lot this summer.

You just need guys who A) fit a coherent style of play and B) are a decent improvement over the weaker starters from last year.

Assuming Pogba and Lukaku leave, you can sign a fullback, center back, two midfielders, and a versatile attacker, and be set.

There's no reason United can't sign Wan Bissaka, Diop, Pepe, and two decent midfielders from continental Europe who fit what OGS wants to do and be a better team.

It's 'okay' in the sense that if we have to sell him we can move on just fine. Obviously I'd rather us not sell him as he's a terrific footballer. But he's not indespensable at all. We've replaced better players repeatedly over the clubs history. The question is how well we use the money, and, well, we need to spend well regardless of Pogba staying/leaving.

We also don't want a situation where he costs us a season of progress due to his lack of commitment.

If we're going to sell Pogba we might as well have kept Mourinho. Let's face it, with Ole and Woodward in charge, losing Pogba, Herrera, Lukaku and De Gea, we're looking at a mid-table finish at very best.

The only upside I can see is it might convince the Glazers to feck off.
We were heading towards that under Mourinho with all of those players in our squad. Once he loses the team, you can't just keep him on. Chelsea were in a relegation battle. We were eight points off fifth, 11 points off fourth, two points ahead of tenth and five points ahead of Brighton. We would still have ended up losing all of those with the possible exception of Lukaku. Mourinho was the one who froze Herrera out of the team at the start of the season despite him being named our Player of the Season just a few months earlier. We did very well to get close to finishing fourth after that and that was in spite of Mourinho's efforts earlier in the season.

We did it with Fergie and even then it's debatable.

Never seen him play but looked class in the YT highlights. So pretty much an expert on him now. I'd spend upto 80m on him.

80m is nowhere close enough. It's going to take more than 100m to get Havertz.

Looks like we are going to have a very busy 8 weeks in this transfer window. Pogba willing to go on strike as he wants out.
We will now need 3 new midfielders. a RB, CB, RW, and possibly a new Forward.
That's 7 players, and we can't seem to get any over the line.
