Duncan Castles had Graham Hunter on his podcast. Quotes from it are in this twitter thread.

Yeah, he is off to them. That much Money and guaranteed starting place is something not many clubs will offer him. Barca need to up their offer, which they dont seem desperate enough to do. If they dont change their mind last minute, this is done

Erm, he would cost twice as much moving from PSG than Ajax.
Not if he runs down his contract. If he signs one at PSG for five years, he could move to Barcelona on a free when he's 24 (about to turn 25) and have his prime years there. Both he and Raiola would get paid a big wedge due to lack of transfer fee, and as PSG are making him one of the best paid players in the world, he doesn't need to worry about contract renewals.

Verratti probably had the same mindset. He’s now 27 and something of a forgotten man. As good as De Ligt is, there will be an influx of central defenders just like him over the next five years. PSG is a graveyard.

Basically what @Kag said below, PSG dont lose players they dont want to lose, no idea how they do it but they do, Thiago Silva wanted Barca badly too, same with Veratti, I imagine De Ligt will be the same.

And if PSG get wind of that they'll send him to the reserves for at least a year. Who knows if he'd be the same player after that.

Trusting any "guarantees" from their Qatari ownership group is never a good idea. They're scum of the highest order.
I’d trust Raiola to add contract clauses for such promises. Something like if he plays less than 75% of the minutes, it activates a release clause of the current transferfee or even less.

To be honest seems like they have gotten rid of Henrique due to the problems with Rabiot, doubt they will try that again but you never know

We’d be much more solid defensively which alone would guarantee us at least 4th.
We’d be much better on the ball from the back.
We’d have dangerous attacking midfield but McT I’m not convinced on as a long term regular starter.
We’d still likely be too short up front to do anything other than 3rd.
And with key squad players like Young, Mata, Lingard, and Matic we’d be no better prepared to handle any injuries than we were before.

I doubt it's because of Rabiot. More likely because of losing out on de Jong to Barca. They really wanted de Jong.

Verratti signed like 3 or 4 extensions there, none bumping his wages by more than 1m or so, because his previous agent was an incompetent moron.

De Ligt's 5th season at PSG is on the run up to the European Championships. Would not be a good idea to let the contract run down and get benched or put in the reserves after 4 years. All hypothetical he'd want to leave and still be on the same deal of course.

Verratti signed a new contract until 2021 when he was 23 in 2016 and at the time he was linked to Real Madrid et al. A year later, Barcelona were after him and there was zero chance of it happening due to there being four more years on the fresh contract. If Verratti hadn't signed the contract, a deal would probably have happened so I disagree with it being a graveyard as Verratti had a fair bit of interest, but he decided to sign new contracts which put the power out of his hands.

His fault for signing a long-term contract the year before.

I'm not sure that'll happen again. They did sack Henrique but don't know how much the Rabiot saga played a part.

The proposed PSG contract would probably put him only behind Mbappe and Neymar in wages there, so I think he'd be okay being on the same wages. Not like Verratti whose wages weren't that great in comparison.

Aside from the fact that this terrible article is more like an opinion piece than transfer news, Lingard is the "future" -- really? Do they still think he's a kid, guy is 26 ffs, almost the same age as Maguire (actually older) whose age was mentioned like a negative in that article.

I don’t think we would be guaranteed top four. Yes, the defence will be more solid but we are still shot everywhere else.

I’m not convinced on Mctominay either, he has played well but not well enough to warrant a starting place at man united, he should be a squad player at most in my opinion.

James to come straight into the starting eleven is a bit odd as well. Again, in my opinion he should be a squad player to see how he develops.

Fernandes is a good signing but I still think Pogba is going to leave so unless we get in a good replacement there then we are pretty screwed in midfield.

The front 3 needs a top quality player..

Also, keep Lukaku or replace him with someone .. going in with martial + Rashford would be mental.

@Damien the problem with trying to employ underhand tactics against PSG is that they'll come back at you and take one of your players (Neymar when Barca attempted to sign the aforementioned Verratti) and when we knocked them out of the CL they're now taking Hererra and there are rumours of De Gea.

They're not the type of club you want to be on the wrong side of Unfortunately.

He did improve later In the season, but I'm still not convinced you win a title in this era with McTominay at the heart of your midfield

True but then we can't replace everyone and we're not close to a title challenge...

It’s far from perfect, but it’s an improvement anyway.

Wan Bissaka >>> Young.
Maguire better than Smalling in terms of ball playing, but not much else. (I don’t rate Maguire that highly).
Fernandes > Fellaini.
James > Lingard as a winger.

McTominay starting ahead of the departed Herrera is a downgrade though. I’d prefer if we added a new DM.

West Ham did all this last summer and had little to show for it in the end.
I think they sort of show how money on its own (without scouting, philosophy etc.) doesn’t amount to much at all.

They’re constantly trying to flash cash but it never works

PSG is a club's player and it has always been, the club generally takes care of the players, Rabiot is a perplexing counter example mainly created by Henrique and with QSI they are also very well paid, then you have Al Khelaifi who is buddy with the likes of Verratti and Thiago Silva to the point where he goes out with them in restaurants and nightclubs and finally you have the wives, most of these players have wives happy in Paris and they don't want to leave at all.
