Woodward's been on the brief I see, same as the "reason we didn't sign a defender" stories that came in. Getting his piss excuses in already. Just spend the money. Just spent 22 Mill on a championship winger with 1 year left... Bids 25 mil on one of the best defenders in the league. feck off Woodward.

Damn well hope so. And James better not be one of the "five signings" we need, I'd count him as a luxury signing and an opportunistic one given the price and his age.
No, he comes out of the 'punt' budget. Not to be confused with the actual budget. I learned all about this on the caf, when the links first surfaced.

Seems so.

Jadon Sancho, James Maddison, Declan Rice, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Sean Longstaff and Nathan Collins are apparently the targets, although we have pretty much given up on Sancho.

Let's hope not. That's an absolutely shocking list.

Maguire is pathetic. Did anyone see the game last night? Smalling is better

Because every other club manages to do this?
Foreign clubs rob the English though. The value is down the league.
Its foreign players that are overpriced these days, not the players in England.

Sancho apart that's a mouth watering list of meh.

Really? Leicester picked up that Pereira at a pretty decent price last year, I'd rather have him than AWB, yet he cost less than 20m last year? If you have your scouts doing their job then you can still pick up relatively good deals, obviously the likes of Koulibaly don't count as every man and his dog knows about him.

Thats a horrible list. It's like we lack the ability to make smart decisions.

Sancho aside that would be a ghastly window, and even he is a complete pipe dream.

All of those players would improve us. All of them as our collective signings, not so sure it would improve us enough. I'd take any mix of them with a little more flair and experience too.

You just know that the slogan will be mocked mercilessly when these young players fail. Another fear is that it's just a simple ploy to not spend on the best players.

I know talk about added pressure, really not the best timed slogan after 6 years of being nowhere near the league title, sporadic CL participation and also coming off our worst run of form since before most of us on this forum were even born.

I'm also on board with the second part.

Does he offer anything other than being a senior player within the squad? He runs a lot, but he’s so slow and ineffective it doesn’t even matter. He’s not all that creative and he seems to have lost his killer positioning in the final third.

I know we plan to offload Sanchez and Lukaku, and that’s a lot of experience out of the squad, but I’d bin Mata too.

By buying young British talent? Yeah what a really stupid idea trying to set our club up for the next 10-15 years.

So what then? More Di Maria, Falcao n Sanchez type signings? Worked a treat for us didn't it?

I actually hope we do go for something close to that list. We aren't going to win the title next few years. Just need to accept it. We need to start building for year 3,4,5,6 etc. That's where we find ourselves now.

So we aren't getting the only class one? Great. Maguire, fecking hell. Hope this is bullshit.

I agree. Sancho is the only one who can make a difference next season. And if the board are telling fans to be patient, maybe fans should also tell the board to be patient when they expect us to show up to games.

The first 2 are good players with a lot of potential to become even better, not bothered about the rest and I don't want us to just become England.

EXACTLY! VVD cost Liverpool 75m. Allison cost 70m. And City have 12 players that cost more than 40m. Yet we can't afford to spend that for ONE PLAYER? Our title charge next season is going to be terrible at this rate.

I can safely say you can rule that out right now. We won't be challenging for a title for another three years and depending on what business we do, could be even more years

For those who claimed the Glazers didn't mind spending, that was only for the initial 2 seasons post Moyes. There has been a noticeable reversal back to the "no-value-in-the-market" policy for the past 3 seasons revamped as "exorbitantly-priced" now.

Even in Jose's first summer, we spent that much on Pogba because the Glazers probably felt his marketing potential would outstrip the fee. Not because of any ambition to improve the squad.

It is fecking pathetic that we have a cap on spending when we can afford financial losses for 5 seasons in a row if need be without any problems. And in current climate of Arab money being pumped into football, the Glazers' moneyball model will backfire.

Yes, I know Ole "gets" the club and all that, but a Norwegian's obsession with Britishness of the targets is a bit strange.

Oh tell him to shut up for a bit.

Not his fault that every interview he does the journo asks him where he's going to be next season. Not his fault that he's the favourite subject of the gutter press. Not his fault that every muppet is fawning over him. It's not like he's doing a Griezmann here.

Another fecking full back and Woodward is sitting on his thumb wondering whether to spend the money for AWB.
Or, you know, he doesn't want to come to United. It's not always straight forward but as long as you get to slate Woodward it's fine.

Sancho I would take; Collins would be cheap and one for the future so that’s fine; I would take AWB as I really rate him; but the rest, no thanks. At a push I would consider Maddison but the hype around him at the minute is boarderline insane. Longstaff is a complete unknown entity and Maguire and Rice, no fecking thanks.

Why shouldn’t he slate Woodward? The guy is a Glazer stooge that doesn’t give a shit about anything other than the bottom line.

He basically said he wasn't going anywhere one or two times. Everyone on here simply chooses not to believe him. They prefer blaming Woodward.

Our plan seems to be to spend a little as possible and then hope these players turn into title challengers. Why not target players who are on the verge of becoming really good players? Instead we're filling our team with more inconsistent performers. You named three players, one didnt want to sign, one was coming off a serious injury and the other, well most felt he was on the decline although i'll give you Sanchez. Our best signing has been Herrera or Pogba signed at the ages of 25 and 23 - the ages we should target.

Robertson was playing for relegated Hull City. Now starting left back for European Champions.

There are gems to be found. It's about time we found some.

And I have a strong feeling we will sign Sancho, just not this summer. I think if we get top 4 or win Europa he will be out big signing next summer.

We need to start the rebuild and prepare for a few tough years why we rejuvenate the squad.

You clearly clinging on to false hope of title challenges as you even mentioned it. We aren't title challengers for at least 2 years. Just accept it and try and be positive about the long term future.

We don't need any more expensive short term gambles. It's only gets us in an even bigger mess.

I'd love it if we sign 4/5 young British talent this summer including Wan Bissaka n Maddison. Be a huge positive step.
