Want to see some solid quality signings rather than a season chasing stuff that was never going to be coming here in the first place. The transfer window might only just have opened but that doesn't mean we can't have started the initial discussions before that. If we haven't got a clear indication that they are coming, we need to more onto the next targets otherwise we'll just end up in a 'Fellaini' situation again...

We’ve probably realised that we’re just being used to up De Ligt's Barca wages (or his Agent's fee!)

Sam Lee responding to a question on Twitter is not a briefing.

Both Lee and Stone just gave their opinion which is: "Raiola wants more money from Barca". Which makes sense, anyone sensible should think that, but it's not a briefing.

Its okay guys we dont need De Ligt, we will sign players from the championship and mid table PL clubs as the Molde manager guides us to 9th place :devil::devil:

Pretty sure that those people that are being smug and are gloating over the latest news that we've given up on De Ligt are the same ones secretly hoping that the news isn't true.

So throughout world football, there are no better CBs than Jones and Smalling?

We can't find anyone better than Young at RB for years now, how can you expect us to find someone better than Jones/Smalling? They are like prime Maldini's compared to Young.

Everyone would be quite happy to see the club sign De Ligt, but, other than a small collection of transfer obsessives hanging on the every word of anonymous Reddit clowns, nobody believed that it actually was happening.

Luckhurst from MEN also jumped on this "English Journos give their opinion" train.

De Ligt was on #mufc’s radar before he made his Ajax debut but there was no move made for him last year and he didn’t enter the conversation re. new centre-back until recently. United are not as tight with Raiola, either. Club have been looking at Koulibaly for upwards of a year.

Basically no update on the present situation. Just his idea of what is probable.

So who are we after then? Who's left apart from the nobodies James and Longstaff? Sancho is off, Koulibaly seems as well, De Ligt too. What about Fernandes?

Gerard Romero is quite a reliable source and if he says we're in with a chance, you can't blame people going crazy. And that was actually in line with what reddit ITK people were saying until that point. None of the English journos actually offer any substantive new information that's not not their opinion.

AWB, Partey. Best believe United will sign a CB after last season and the preceding summer. Might be Maguire or if were lucky Toby.

Fernandes is likely just another Gaitan situation - club desperate to sell, throw names of "interested" clubs around to make a market (that's what they were doing with City, anyway).

Actually been the opposite in recent years with United. We’ve literally told UK media several times in recent past that we’re not in for player X only to go sign player X
Like who? Can't recall anyone...

What is it with 99% of journalists feeling the need to constantly tweet their opinions? Write a blog for heavens sake, there must be people out there who hang onto their every word for it to be so prevalent.

The "Reddit ITKs" are just bored kids on their school holidays. Hopefully their drivel will now be banned from the forum.

Romero has likely got his information from the same place at the other Catalan hacks - Raiola.

We are fecked if James and Longstaff are being bought for the first team. Longstaff has about 600minutes of PL experience and James would barely make the bench for most PL teams.

I guess we will see over the next two months what the clubs ambitions are.

If the first team is not strengthened then we should all be very worried imo.

Nah mate, all we need are these British warriors who run around so much that we will run to a mid table finish next year.

Accepted.

But who do you trust more Balague or Romero?

Oi! Respect the Ligt-bringers! Their prophecy shall be discredited and mocked by many a scrotum, but believers must keep the faith.

It's been a day since some journalists came out and said United were close to De Ligt. The english media has waited 24 hrs to confirm or deny the story. Remaining mum any longer was not an option if they want to remain relevant. Had to go with whatever material they had.

Sky waited 17 hrs (?) before rolling with Balague's assessment. Followed quickly by all major journos saying they dont really know but they doubt it.

I would probably throw my lot in with Stone, Luckhurst, Ogden etc, who all appear to have been told by United that it isn't happening.

Stone clearly mentioned United have not made their view public. Luckhurst also commented on everything except the present situation.
Leaves you with Ogden who says Barca have already gotten an agreement with De Ligt since 2 months. Ignoring his reliability that's just absurd.

The club are clearly pushing back against the reports from Spain. It's up to you if you want to keep desperately clinging to those reports. Don't say you weren't warned.

Stone is never this ambiguous. He clearly spells it out that United cannot and will not say that they're out of the running.

Pogba was one. The majority of UK journos were not sure what United were doing. Some even said Utd not interested. Even after DiMarzio confirmed United’s interest. It was only until it became very evident that the deal was done that they were all on the bandwagon.

A Scandinavian journo (I missed his name) on TalkSPORT just gave his opinion, basically repeated what the latest reports are saying , that United are in for him but fully expected to go to Barca , but can’t rule anything out at this stage .....

So no one knows feck all basically

Stone also made an incorrect statement about Guardiola. He was speaking about Griezmann and not De Ligt.

I don't think he hates United. I think he hates the large swathes of transfer obsessed United fans on Twitter, who bombard him with endless questions and abuse 24 hours a day.
He hates being called out for the number of times hes been caught lying through his teeth.
