Centre-half Dias, 22, is six years younger than Koulibaly, who turns 28 next month, and would cost considerably less.

Benfica rejected £30m from French club Lyon 12 months ago but will cash in on Dias this summer if they receive around £60m.

That represents relatively good value for United, who have armed new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a minimum of £250m in the current window.

It’s amazing that only yesterday evening, another a journalist, of the same paper, was reporting that we were going in for De Ligt. You’d think they’d pull in the same direction and not contradict one another.

Yeah, but the name of the journalist is Harry Pratt, so, you know, maybe we shouldn't be surprised.

More credible sources than Balague have said the interest is extremely real. Let's wait and see.

Balague hasn't written for Sky in about a year (since they lost La Liga rights) and now writes for BBC so I doubt he's the source. Doesn't mean the source is reliable of course, but my money is on him signing for Barca.

Not that I know or think De Ligt is coming to United but chances are their source is Ballbag and even if it was a briefing from United, the club won’t admit we’re busy with a deal unless it was certain of it

If it as briefing from United, it means we have zero chance of getting him and we want to save face. When did we ever buy a player under Woodward when we ruled us out? When we brief something like that, it is over.

"Withdrawn interest". Seems ridiculous really. Either we were interested and got rejected or we were interested and got rejected. Take your pick. Pretending not to be interested any longer won't make it appear any better PR wise.

Hopefully this flurry of reporting over the last 2-3 days has pressured Barca into paying much more than they'd like to.

Actually been the opposite in recent years with United. We’ve literally told UK media several times in recent past that we’re not in for player X only to go sign player X

dont remember that, at least not in the same window.

For a BBC journo he really struggles with writing sentences. The last one just doesn't make any sense.

Either way, not that I think we'll sign him, but Sky are garbage and Stone only expressed an opinion, so you all can continue to muppet about.

Nothing new to report here, a dog on the street could have told him pre Fa Cup final De Ligt was Barca bound. The rumors are that it was changed in last 48 hours. Lazy Journalism.

Just to add I think he’s Barca bound anyways.

Sky Sports should be banned from here imo if this turns out to be not true. They have no credible sources when it comes to our dealings at least.

Right then let's move on to the next CB target, still don't think the Koulibaly situation is all cut and dried despite what Napoli say

Unpopular opinion but I don't think we'll get De Ligt. I'm sure we're just being used to get a better deal from Barca. Hope I'm wrong but we've all seen this kind of thing before with us.

I think most people believe this to be the case, including all journalists worth listening to.
