What happened with him and beckham?

1998 World Cup, Beckham touches Simeone with his boot (while lying on the ground), Simeone goes down like he’s been shot, Beckham gets red and England exit on penos. Hilarious.

I find it shocking that you can be a United fan and not know about Beckham and Simeone. I mean, I get that there are fans that were born in 98' for example. But surely you must have seen it on T.V shows or random googling.

Post WC, Beckham was vilified by the English press who went on a media campaign to blame him and like with the Ronaldo and Rooney incident (please don't say you don't know about that....) it showed how mentally strong Beckham was. Some of the stuff printed about him was truly horrific and certain papers wouldn't dare do the likes of that today. It was a witch hunt and a horrible thing to witness. He of course was boo'd up and down the country as well.

The mirror for example, created a David Beckham cut out Dartboard so that you could throw darts at his face. Stay classy.

A united player and national enemy, their absolute perfect scenario. Shows as you mention how professional David was.

Really makes you wonder to some of those people tweeting even watch/follow/know anything about football?
I read an article the other day on goal.com where they said Conte and not Poch is a better fit for United. I want my time back for wasting it on reading dross

Liverpool push Van Dyke up top and pump 100 long balls to him in the last 10 minutes of a game they are chasing. They could sure do with Fellaini as an option off the bench.

Imagine if we actually used Fellaini in the correct situations, instead of playing him as a DM or playmaker. Get him in the box in the final 10 minutes and get crosses and longballs to him to cause chaos. We would not have qualified for the CL without Fellaini taking 3 markers with him on that Ashley Young cross against Juventus.

This idea that Fellaini simply existing in the squad means we aren't good is unfounded. Long balls to players good in the air has been a thing for top teams for ages, both Liverpool and Juventus utilize this tactic at the end of games right now.

I love these kind of debates, because we get to do some digging into his stats and see if this "option off the bench" stuff is a valid point, or not

Fellaini signed for united on the 3rd of September 2013, in the that season he made 19 apps and scored (according to https://www.premierleague.com/players/3604/Marouane-Fellaini/stats?co=1&se=22) 0 goals, and assisted in one goal.

In the 2014/15 season he made 27 appearances, scored 6 goals (three headers, two right footed finishes one left footed finish) and assisted with 0 goals.
In the 2015/2016 season he made 18 appearances scored, scored 1 goal (right footed finish) and assisted with 0 goals
in the 2016/2017 season he made 28 appearances scored scored 1 goal (header) and assisted with 0 goals.
in the 2017/28 season he made 16 appearances scored 4 goals (two headers, two right footed finishes) and assisted with 0 goals.
So far this season he has made 14 appearances scored 0 goals, and assisted with 1 goal.

In his time with the club so far, he has scored 6 headed goals in 103 appearances, for points he has earned from coming off the bench, all I can find is a the equaliser in a shitty 2-2 draw with west brom.

On face value, bringing him on doesn't actually achieve anything, he doesn't score many goals, half his incredible 12 goal tally have been headers, he contributes even less with his assists.

I dont think people actually are being harsh on him (me being one of them) when they say he has been utter wank for most his time with the club, and any points earned that could be attributed to him in some way, are vastly outweighed by the points lost due to his terrible performances in the games he has played.

Great way to start a discussion. First off i never specifically mentioned as a sub, Fellaini was moved upfront in plenty of games he started because we were losing or drawing.

Secondly on subs before calling someone a liar i assume you have of course only factored in the games where Fellaini was fit and on the bench and only counted the games where we were losing/drawing at the time of the sub?

Or is this just all subs from all the games and you didn't actually put that much thought into it?

I already did this analysis in the Fellaini thread earlier in the season and you ignored it. (You bring this Fellaini plan B stuff up all the time even when it's refuted over and over). I analysed games that we were drawing or losing at half time and found that Rashford was by far the most common substitute and Fellaini was right at the bottom with Mata.

In fact, this idea that Fellaini is moved up top when we are drawing or losing when he starts is unfounded because it doesn't happen all that often. Not only are these games rare (due to Fellaini playing against weaker opposition in general) but Fellaini was practically substituted as much as stayed on the pitch in these situations. Not to mention there were many games where he started and wasn't moved up top.

Lovely debate where the first thing you do is start with a complete strawman. Fellaini's qualities aren't in goals and assists, he is a way to move up the pitch as well as a disruption for the opposing defence. Similar to Lingard who doesn't score or assist all that much but his qualities in disrupting the other team are well documented by his peers and coaches.

Well, I think it could be a case of semantics here, as Rossi will likely be asked to help the players and train/coach them.

That's possibly true, but it's not the Telegraph's original reporting. They're all quoting the press association (including Stone) and everyone else is pretty clear (including Rossi himself) that he's just training with the club. By far the most likely explanation is that the Telegraph made a mistake when hashing up the story from the PA report.

What part of him laughing off being a coach was confusing to you? He is working on his fitness, that's it

Funny how every manager Fellaini has played under at United seems to rate him,
Also funny how Belgian international managers seem to rate him,
Makes me think that maybe he's not mediocre?
But then what would them managers know over a guy in a forum saying he's mediocre eh?!
Fellaini has his uses in this United squad, and has performed nearly every time he has been called upon. He's not world class but certainly has shown more than some at the club.

Okay so, tell me, what he has done well when he plays for us, seriously, except for a few hit and hope long ball headers that went in, what has he done other than that, is he a great dribbler? No, is he a great passer? No, is he a great tackler? Not really, is he quick? Not in the slightest, his balance is awful, he elbows people. You're right, managers will know more than me, but isn't it also funny that the United managers have all failed and been pragmatic managers that liked things like "hard work" perhaps more than any technical ability, of which Fellaini has none of. He's mediocre, end of story, as I said in my post, no top club in the world would take Fellaini even as a squad member, only we're that stupid.

I'm sure Barca, Real, Bayern, City, PSG etc were queuing up around the block when his release clause was so small, and even more so now after his amazing displays for us.

Funny how no one wanted him on a free transfer last year.
Funny how much success we have achieved over the last six years.

Are you kidding?

PSG, Arsenal and other Spanish/Turkish team want him on a free transfer.

If you include other competitions this season, he's already scored a last minute equaliser in a knockout game and a last minute winner to put us in the UCL round of 16.

This was discussed countless times. You are talking about assist and goal only, which is never a good way to measure someone 's contribution .

You are conveniently forgetting the countless disruptions he has caused in the opposition just because he is in the box, the best defender of the opposition team came to mark him. Countless times he has made our defence secured by being a extra man in defence, when the opposition bombards with aerial balls.
This attacking game will.not work every time . We obviously need a plan B to score and defend . Hope he stays.

Jeez I get it. Not every person is going to know every bloody moment in football. I know the Headbutt, Handball, Rooney and Roonie etc. At the time I was young so didn't really give a damn about England in the tournament, only watched Ireland. We didn't exactly have much channels on the tv. Plus I've barely ever heard about that moment. I wouldn't get pissed if some on here didn't know about the France handball. It is what is it!

No, we don't need battering ram option to change game as Ole has already proved at Newcastle. He's done nothing for two months and this myth that he changes games never dies. Why waste our energy on limited average mmidfielder that change game once every 15 games? It's a waste of spot . And can be easily be filled with midfielder that's got good basics and excels every game. I don't understand why people want to hang on. He belongs to the past failed regimes and remains a symbol of the mediocrity post SAF.

The last paragraph addresses that.

If you insist on including the “countless disruptions” he has caused the opposition, you also absolutely have to include the countless times he has caused us to conceede goals, lose/draw games.
