United fans have short memories. Fergie wasn’t adverse to chucking it long when required, with the likes of Bruce, pallister or even O’Shea chucked up front. Fellaini is that guy because we don’t have any defenders who can head the ball in that way, particularly when smalling is out
I remember him encouraging quicker play and passing to break down tired defences, and lots of our late goals coming from a collective upping of the tempo with the crowd playing its part. And yeah we'd sometimes put Brucie or a defender up there to get on the end of corners and crosses, but for knock-downs from 70 yard hopefully punts - yeah I don't remember much of that, and certainly don't remember a squad player who's main use was that purpose.
Probably a fair hint of rose tinted glasses to go along with that, though.
