Eh? We currently have an interim manager and are looking to hire a DOF for a reason. Our squad has been chopped up and changed multiple times since SAF left, because as a club we lacked a plan and vision, and left the majority of work the respective manager at the time. That clearly hasnt worked, hence why we're hiring a DOF, so theres a cohesive plan going forward, despite whoever the manager is at the time. No more need to mass rebuilds.

Now, why would you sign someone for that amount of money if 1) you dont know if your incoming manager rates him, or wants to use him or not? 2) you dont have a DOF in place, who cant scrutinize the deal and decide if its even worth it for the club going forward or not?

Just seems a bit bonkers to me sign someone for that amount. Its not simply "one more signing" is it? Signing Lee Grant from stoke is one more signing. Signing a 20 year old prospect for £58million is more of a statement of intent.

You don't see any contradiction between "despite whoever the manager is at the time" and "you don't know if your incoming manager rates him?"

If Ole has been brought in because he embodies the way we should be playing then he's more than qualified to oversee transfers rather than missing out on an important window.

Would it be wise to sign those sorts of players without even a manager, let alone a DOF?

A CB sure, but other than that, i dont expect major activity.

Yeah majority of these players get snapped up during uncertainty at the top only. When the manager has not taken over, or the manager changes, and in the interim players get snapped up. Same was the case in many other crucial players.

It will take months and months for this board to get a dof in the first place till then all the other clubs do their ground work already.

I am 100% sure we are interested in De Ligt unless Ed and co are as thick as a plank. There is only one problem though and that is that pretty much every elite club in europe will be in for him and rumours are that Barca are very interested and well, you know, when Barca comes calling few people say no..

I'm sure we are interested, as you say all the big clubs are, we just have the more pressing and immediate need of him, but of course that might not matter if he feels the Barca lure. His agent is Raiola though so maybe that can aid us. For me if we can't get him I wouldn't bother with any of these other 21 year old or under CB's, de Ligt is special, the rest don't convince me more than Axel that they can merely add to the depth of options, de Ligt has leadership class already.

Despite knowing the club, allowing your interim manager to push through a £58mil transfer for a player from a different league, after just 3 games, reeks of irresponsibility on the clubs part. Thered be an argument if he was our full time manager, but hes not currently.

Out of the two then De Ligt makes a little more sense and looks a little more sophisticated. There is no way the club will have two relatively slow CB's. Skrinar if bought would (should) be a replacement for Lindelof which is a bit of a shame really. Agree with you though when Barca Madrid come calling, it's hard to turn down. Who knows what Ed has up his sleeve. Buying now with a loan back would be a great bit of business for either Ole or a new incoming manager.

I'm note commenting on Pulisic, i wouldn't sign him. But I just think it's bonkers how this fabled DoF is portrayed on here. Besides, by all accounts we aren't hiring a DoF, but a watered down Sporting Director version.

Strange time and thread to make that point then.

By what accounts?

I thought he was a done deal to us. Plays on the right, is young, dribbles assists and scores. American connections and all, too.

A bit disappointed we missed out on another trick. Shrewd business from Chelsea, I'd say. Price is not a big deal. Look at VVD.

A you said in the part in put in bold he ticks a lot boxes. With him being American, I thought that would have attracted us slightly to him as I think he will sell a lot of shirts over there.
Really hoping we haven't missed out on someone who has the best years of his career ahead of him. Got a feeling Chelsea did well here. Although I have only watched him limited times looked he's looked decent, in an area where I personally feel we need upgrading badly.

Fee seems decent considering his age and that I heard of prices quoted well over £100m quoted at various points. We may have missed an opportunity there.

Hope this does not happen been hoping the club bring the DoF for a while now.
Personally I think the club should let us know if we are going to hire a Director of Football, a Sporting Director or Technical Director as the role seems to keep changing depending where the story is coming from or even a combination of the above roles if they feel they need it.

Seems like an a smokescreen by the club to buy themselves some time (maybe they themselves don't know exactly what they want from the role) and I hope they bring a good football person, not someone to be Woody's personal enhanced skivvy.

Magallan - I am sure his name is Magellan and that he is really good in the channels

Bizarre post. Our "right wingers" play centrally, which other American players have we signed with our "connections" and what does he have to do with VVD who was proven as one of if not the best CB in the league?
