I thought he was a done deal to us. Plays on the right, is young, dribbles assists and scores. American connections and all, too.

A bit disappointed we missed out on another trick. Shrewd business from Chelsea, I'd say. Price is not a big deal. Look at VVD.

Dortmund look like the winners of this one. I've always felt Pulisic was quite an ordinary player for the hype he gets. They keep the superior player in Sancho and pocket £58m for a player whose contract was running down anyway. Happy days.

A done deal for a player we were never seriously linked with?

If it was to us I'd have been over the moon but since he's going to Chelsea I'm going to say he's overrated

Who will we sign as a panic buy on the last day of the window because Ed refused to pay the asking price for any of our targets?

No one. I doubt we're going to be active with no DoF and an interim manager. It would have to be a complete no-brainer for us to get involved I think.

For me, Pulisic is one of those players that I don't really want at our club that much, but also would rather see him not go to a Premier League rival at the same time.

Yeah, agreed. I think he's a decent player but Sancho has 8 Bundesliga goals for Dortmund in 1706mins. Pulisic got 10 Bundesliga goals in 4697mins. Currently Sancho is displaying form that Pulisic hasn't got to yet.

That was quick. Another right winger snapped up and we keep watching.
Would it be wise to sign those sorts of players without even a manager, let alone a DOF?

A CB sure, but other than that, i dont expect major activity.

Yep agree. Dodged a bullet. Average player but very lucrative.

I like this notion that it's okay that we didn't go for Pulisic because we can get Sancho.

We can also get Messi on the right wing so I guess it's okay indeed.

I like the Pulisic kid because he's a United fan but we don't need him. We have outstanding young players in Martial and Rashford, both have outperformed him.

Would of thought it makes sure that Sancho is going nowhere. He will be in the first team.

I love how the DoF has become some sort of footballing oracle on here. It seems nobody knows about football unless they're a DoF.

It also confuses me that we've employed Ole because he knows the club and style and yet he apparently can't be trusted on which players fit the United style?

Any new manager is going to have to make use of 95% of our current squad yet one more signing is foolish without a DoF in place apparently

It would be the most Ed Woodward signing if there ever were one, but when he didn't do anything, you're certain he must have a very good reason not to do it. It could be that we have some good youngsters who can play on the wings coming through and signing another young talent would mean no chance for them.

Eh? We currently have an interim manager and are looking to hire a DOF for a reason. Our squad has been chopped up and changed multiple times since SAF left, because as a club we lacked a plan and vision, and left the majority of work the respective manager at the time. That clearly hasnt worked, hence why we're hiring a DOF, so theres a cohesive plan going forward, despite whoever the manager is at the time. No more need to mass rebuilds.

Now, why would you sign someone for that amount of money if 1) you dont know if your incoming manager rates him, or wants to use him or not? 2) you dont have a DOF in place, who cant scrutinize the deal and decide if its even worth it for the club going forward or not?

Just seems a bit bonkers to me sign someone for that amount. Its not simply "one more signing" is it? Signing Lee Grant from stoke is one more signing. Signing a 20 year old prospect for £58million is more of a statement of intent.

If that's true we should get both him and Koulibaly. Central defence sorted for at least five years (Koulibaly'd be 32 then) with a £150m outlay. We'll get a chunk of that back on Jones, Rojo and Bailly's wages if we offload them plus possible transfer fees. We can have Lindelöf, Smalling and the youngsters to fill in as deputies in case of injuries.

But we still need players who can provide proper width. I don't see Pulisic as someone who does that. He's more of a playmaker in the Isco mold. Add to that he's never really made it into Dortmund's 11 or ever truly smacked open door with his performances.

Sancho would be tough but that the kind of player we need. Someone who can burn people with pace and directness. Someone like Thauvin, Chiesa or Bailey wouldn't be bad either.

Lindelof has shown he's good enough to start imo. Under Jose's calamitous system and under Ole since. He still needs a physical, but cool customer next to him who can deal with some of the directness he sometimes steuggles with.

I just watched a few videos on Škriniar and being honest I thought he looked nothing more than OK. Loves a tackle and strong as a bull, but that first two or three yards seems to lack a bit of pace. How does he compare to Milenkovic ?

Would be immense to get a top quality CB in January who can slot right in. Suddenly we aren't leaking goals and our attack continues to flourish. Won't happen though :(

That is a weakness he has. But imo the other qualities he have outshines his lack of pace. He is also young and there is a lot of room for improvement in the fella. If he is available it would be a no brainer for me to go for him even in january. He would improve the defence of any team in europe. Quality centre halves like De Ligt, Koulibaly, Škriniar is what this club needs the most. We have never filled the gap that Rio and Vida left and we really need to invest big on one or two top quality players in that position.

There's not much point in appointing a DOF if we are going to do his job before he even gets here, I think that is the main point.

He plays a different position to both, would have have taken the RW spot in the front 3.

The more I've watched of Skriniar the more I've noticed how flat footed he is vs any decent pace, that's a big question mark for the PL, we certainly couldn't pair him with Lindelof who is also slow. Milenkovic is decent but really if we are going to buy another CB in the age range of Axel then de Ligt is the only one really worth it IMO

I am 100% sure we are interested in De Ligt unless Ed and co are as thick as a plank. There is only one problem though and that is that pretty much every elite club in europe will be in for him and rumours are that Barca are very interested and well, you know, when Barca comes calling few people say no..
