Would love Fabinho. Provides the cover we need at both midfield and RB.

Yep, and I think he said before that he wants to play RB more so that he can have a higher chance to make the Brazil squad. Maybe Di Marzio was right in that we were interested in him last year, just that the Matic deal came up and due to budget issues, we had to give up the Fabinho deal.

  • Monaco is using this to up his price to AM
  • United is putting this out there to pressure Lazio to drop the price on SMS.
Still possible that Fabinho is an option, but I can't see it happening. It was more likely last summer. Of course, there is a part of me that hopes we can get a package deal with Sidibe.

Aren't Fabinho and SMS different sort of players?

Mourinho likes to have the same number choices in his position. If he has 2 out I'd think he wants 2 in, ie Fred plus another.

At least I hope that's his thinking anyway.

MArtial has never disappointed when playing centrally. He has shown consistently that when playing upfront he will either score or get an assist.

No, the 'Fabinho to United' stuff came from Juve, who started briefing journos to that effect to explain their failure to agree a deal for the player. In other words, Di Marzio and Bouhafsi were fed a load of disinformation by some Juve official/intermediary and incorrectly printed it as fact. These things happen - a lot of rubbish around at this time of year.
 
Fabinho does make sense, he can pass and tackle well ,also I think he is a bit more mobile than Matic at DM.Also he can play at RB but if we are buying him to play as first choice RB, he's a meh option.
But if we were, we wouldn't be in talks for Sidibe.

I like the players we have been linked to.
Toby, Sandro, Sidibe, Fred and maybe Willian and Fabinho are all very good additions without any of them very costly. Only Toby and Willian are oldish in that group with the others in their prime.
 
Not fecking Fabinho again, if it didn't happen last summer it's not happening now
 
The two players who needed the most rest last season but we couldn't afford to give them it were Valencia and Matic. Both had performance drops as a result. Valencia especially. Fabinho would be perfect to release the load on both.

I'd have suspicion Fabinho would maybe take Valencia's place full time after a little while though.

Why do you think the Fabinho rumor is made up?
We always have more than one target for a position, maybe last year for the DM position,it was Fabinho / Matic. Matic was a risky transfer as we had no idea if Chelsea would sell whereas Fabinho was a more straight forward option.
Also maybe after selling half their squad Monaco refused to sell Fabinho.

Young has been one of our most consistent performers this season, plus he was one of the only left backs this season that kept Salah quiet over both games. I would class Bertrand as better yes.

Young has done well, don't get me wrong. But he isn't the answer, nor will he ever be.

Same logic to Valencia yes. I'm aware players can change positions as they get older and can think of many examples. For me, we either need to use Shaw or sign a LB. Young cannot be 1st choice next season, nor can Valencia.

If we accept Young is the best we can do at LB, then we may as well just give up the title now cos that just reeks of settling for average.

This is Manchester United - lets raise the bar a little bit
 
For those who are watching Monaco, is Sidibe or Fabinho a better RB option for us, if we aim to find a long-term replacement and upgrade of Valencia?

I don't disagree that Fabinho will be a good cover for Valencia, letting the latter to perform in the best form when needed. But don't forget Tony V turns 33 when the next season starts. It does not make sense to buy a cover for this year (at a high price) and then spend another sum to sign a first choice RB in the season after next.

We still have Timothy Fosu-mensah for that 'cover' role.
