Alderweireld will be a great addition - a leader in defense and is currently the CB I hope Lindelof can become.

We're adding Fred to our side and dont need Fekir but feel free to praise Liverpool and how they're run.

I don't get comments like this.

I'm no expert on most European leagues, and have probably seen less of our newspaper targets than most here but I have watched Fekir play for a number of reasons. Anyone with eyeballs who has seen him with any sort of regularity will say he's a great talent, and considering the amount of matches Fellaini, Lingard & Mata featured in last season, he'd heavily feature in a variety of formations for us.

My glasses are as rose-tinted as the next but IF Liverpool pick up Fekir for 50-60 mil and we end up paying close to that for either Fred or Arnautovic then I would be a little green, and yes, reluctant praise will come forth.

There's no indication of us paying that much amount for Arnautovic and we're paying 50m euros for Fred as compared to Liverpool who it seems is paying 70m euros.

I'm sure those wont be the only deals. It's just silly to say in May one club is so much better run and had a brilliant summer already while deals are still in progress.
But it's modern I guess, grass is always greener on the other side.
Also we don't know for how much will Fred go and will we get Arnatuovic at all.

Do Fekir and Fred play in the same position? Are they the same type of player?

Yeah you're right. I didn't read the initial part of his post ( about being better run than us.) That's a bit over-the-top and muppety.

I haven't seen Fred play at all, but I have watched Fekir a reasonable amount. (My Sister's fella supports Lyon.) From what I gather about Fred, they're close enough positionally that we would never buy both.

They aren’t anywhere close enough positionally to entertain the thought of them being mutually incompatible targets.

Hypothetically speaking, of course any team can buy both players. Fekir is an attacking midfielder who can also play as a forward. Fred is your classical utility midfielder (somehow in the mould of Fernandinho) who can play as a pivot, as a CM, as a B2B, as a CDM, as a deep lying playmaker and can also play further forward as an AM. Fekir is more of a specialist. Fred is more of a generalist midfielder. Who is the better player depends on your basis of assessment and the role you are using as context. Fekir can break down defences. He is in many ways, a brilliant playmaker. He dribbles well, even better than Coutinho. If your opponent puts up a wall in front of you, you want Fekir in your squad. Fred on the other hand, gives you tactical flexibility in midfield. He is a workhorse with skills. A quicker Matic, a younger Fernandinho. Fekir will make your football look artistic. Fred will make your football look efficient.

Fred and Fekir close positionally

We are never going to get Fekir because we have a plethora of talent there. Pogba, Sanchez, Lingard and Mata can all play behind the striker.

Fred is a defensive (literally) midfielder. A mix between a number 6 and 8. No manager in the world would consider them as the same profile.

But... But... Klopp is a genius, and every other club is already having a better transfer window than us! Please don't get facts involved in you pro United agenda.

You haven't gathered much.

For some reason people seem to think we are just going to buy every decent player under the sun. You buy players for the system. Our system is two number 6s and a number 10. With Matic we have a 6, Fred a 6/8 and Pogba an 8/10. So we have the players for the system.

A much better comparison would be Seri who is actually very similar to Fred in play style and qualities. Seri is apparently going to Barcelona.

If Bale is available then hopefully this Arnautovic story is a smokescreen. On the pitch, Bale does everything better than Arnautovic could only ever wish for. We need quality, not quantity.

That is true but its just being able to keep Bale on the pitch for the whole season.

Unfortunately we are approaching a situation wherein we need both...

No one is in Ukraine and the other is in France, not close at all.

Oh for fecks sake just sign for United already. I have to ask if we sort the problem areas first (full back,CM etc.) and make good signings for those spots would some of the reservations regarding Bale be eased somewhat. As in that he hasnt been prioritised over fixing the squad.

His injury record is the problem

Christian Falk of Bild is saying that Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern and he's meant to be tier 1 in terms of reliability for Bayern.

He's wanted to leave for Madrid the last 2/3 seasons, but clearly Madrid don't want him.

If Chelsea stump up huge money, they could probably get him.

Well if he wants to go to Madrid there is always Atletico especially if they sell Griezmann, that is 100 million to invest then.

If not Sandro then who will we get? Surely we wont get both Rose and Alderweireld from Spurs. Is Tierney that much better than Young?

Of course he is better than Young

Weren’t it not for the Alexis deal, I think Lewa would’ve been one of the names Ed would’ve went after. Along with the obvious like Bale and Greizmann.
